cmj, sounds like all you need is a pith helmet and an elephant gun and you're good to go.
Got really lucky myself at a flea market yesterday. Schott Perfecto 618 in either heavy steerhide or HH; like new condition; size 46; fits perfect; $25! From the same seller, Schott A-2 184SM in naked...
It works at other places, too. Standing in line at the local liquor store for my monthly supply of Jack Daniels the other day, and wearing a tan duck jacket (not Carhartt, but same style) and a black baseball cap, an older gentleman behind me started asking questions about the NFL playoffs. When...
Ed, those original stars must have removed by a previous owner; there's no way they could have just fallen off.
I wish they only had two attachment points. The thing is, the epaulets are two layers of leather, stitched at the edges. When the original stars were put on, they were attached to a...
Go with the original...

Really. Get in touch with Gail. She'll happily answer any questions you've got, and she'll answer them quickly.
The epaulets still had faint outlines of the original stars,as well as the original holes for attaching (10 for each star!), and those are what I used for the replacements, so this is what the jacket looked like when new.
Thanks for the comments and kind words, guys. Yeah, it was one of those classic jaw-dropping moments when I saw the Perfecto label. In a perfect world, I guess it would have been black, not brown, but, overall, I think that brown ages and distresses better than black. And my wife loves the...
Finally figured out the posting pics thing (kinda). Thrifted this mid- to late 70s brown Perfecto One Star a month ago for $15. The condition is very good to excellent. The stars had been removed, but Gail at Schott was kind enough to send me a pair of replacements to bring it back to its former...
+1 My understanding is that the extremely pointed toe was something that was created for the cowboy movies of the '30s and '40s. I'd say that style, while not for everyone, has proven itself a lasting one. That being said, if you still feel that you can only get another year or two out of...
+1 I own about a half dozen ivy caps, and any time one of them hits the bed, my wife looks like the evil monkey from Chris' closet on Family Guy. Was this bad luck for the person who placed the hat, or, as 1*Cool*Kitten's dad said, was it more likely bad luck for the hat?
johnny, there's nothing I can add to what everyone has more eloquently posted. All I can say is that it is an absolutely beautiful jacket and I wish I owned one. Really.
I'd just like to give two thumbs up to Schott's customer service, particularly Gail. I recently acquired a mid- to late seventies Perfecto One Star and e-mailed Schott's customer service to ask about the possibility of purchasing a set of epaulet stars, as the ones from my jacket were missing...
First off, in my opinion, if you like the combination and you can own it, then wear it (although maybe not with your wife). But, your posting, and the questions you ask, lead me to believe that you don't own the look, therefore, you can't pull it off. I tend to dress more contemporary, but I can...
Looking forward to the film as a solid action/adventure movie. That being said, I really don't like Downey's choice of hat. I wasn't expecting to see a deerstalker, but you can count me as one who has "a lot of silly emotion" surrounding it. Basil rules.
