Shocking! So we, the members here, are just a pool of potential customers and target for advertisement. I didn't like the fact that they added ads at the top, but now this is too much.
I'm gone too.
Your *mysterious friend* is becoming very interesting, and the bottle that he may bring along even more so. Too bad I will not go to the Queen Mary, but there's one more reason to look forward to a trip to Switzerland.
I too like the HJ name and product, because it's a traditional hatter whose fame goes beyond the Indy hat. They did the Indy hat, Steed's bowler, and, like I wrote in the first post, could have done Bossiney's hat in the late 1800's. HJ is now owned by Swaine, Adeney Brigg, and the current...
I haven't seen any real absinthe here, just a drink called "Absente", and I doubt it's the real thing. The real absinthe has only been legalized in Switzerland recently, and even that is not the absinthe that the poets drank in the 1900's. The original absinthe was 75% alcohol, whereas the new...
I just got my new HJ from Todd, and I have to say that it looks great. When I took it out of the box, it looked so much like the film hat that I expected Harrison Ford to crawl out of the box from under the hat.
I think they called it the "Australian model" as a generic name for a type of hat that looks like a bush hat (wide brim, etc), just like one would call a fur hat with earflaps a "Russian hat", even though it would be made elsewhere.
I've been wondering for a long time who made John Steed's bowler, but now I found this picture:
From the liner, it's an HJ. HJ still sells a black and a light grey bowler: http://swaineadeney.co.uk//perl2/v2.cgi?page=/catalogue/details.html&productid=416§iontoken=herbert-johnson-hats
1-Tricker's
2-Pakeman (they use English 14 oz wool and are affordable)
3-Thurston racing green to match the lining of the Pakeman suits
4-polka dot, plain or regimental stripe tie
5-Herbert Johnson Indy or Homburg
The second HJ is very interesting, it's got a peculiar shade of grey. I think that is the hat Indy wore in the aircraft in Raiders, only with a higher crown. You might want to post the pictures on indygear, (link...
See Art Fawcett at http://www.vintagesilhouettes.com/ and Steve Delk at http://www.adventurebilthats.com/. But you'll hear it from the horse's mouth, as they both post here.
I've already said too much. I have to change my name and dissapear now. However, if I don't happen to resurface again, those concerned should know that said potentially explosive sartorial secrets are in the posession of a certain well-known newspaper, with instructions to publish, if I ever...
I've been looking for a pair of boots like that for a long time, but the only places I know of that make them are Aubercy, Marc Guyot and a shoemaker in Vienna, and they are all both unavailable and too expensive for me.
They certainly look like a Poet. What period do they date from? The ones from the early 80's, which they used in Raiders, had a white lining with a red logo. Judging by the liner, these seem to be older.
Also, is the brim dimensionally cut, i. e. is it longer in the front and back that it...
