Hello all,
I've been studying vintage men's swim trunks with the intention of creating a personal pattern, so I can make my own. I was fortunate enough to find some Sears vintage-cut 1950s-era swim trunks at the thrift store, with an elasticized waistband in the back, a zipper fly, and...
I just bought these cufflinks! I know the picture is hard to see, but if anyone could give me info on cleaning, I'd appreciate it. They are quite dirty looking and while that is not a total turn-off, I'd like to shine them up.
I'm packing up my suits for a trip, and I realized I don't know what to do with my detachable collars! How does one pack such a thing? It's been ironed to have a bit of a curve, so storing it flat seems like it might not be a good idea. Plus, I don't even know what I'd store it in.
Has anyone...
Buy a shirt that can accommodate detachable collars! ^_-
For what it's worth, I don't think the spread collar looks bad on you, but (imho) the space between your tie's knot and collar is distracting. Your head looks neither round nor long, so I don't think you need to worry about that too...
Knit bow tie
Is there a historical precedent for the knit bow tie? I know bow ties were quite popular in the golden era but I can't recall hearing about vintage knit bow ties. I'm assuming they're just a kind of modern kitsch, but if anyone has any info I'd be very interested.
Thanks for the info. I'm looking into it to make pajamas. (Sidenote: is there really such a thing as cotton flannel suiting? I don't think I've ever heard of that.)
What about polka dots? Was polka dot cotton flannel common during the Golden Era?
I'm looking for information on flannel during the Golden Era. What kinds of colors and patterns were dominant? (solid, plaid, patterned, etc.) Can anyone give me any background on this?
Thanks!
This is a great topic; something I've struggled with a lot. During cold weather, it's so easy to pair a fedora with a nice peacoat or trench... but in the summertime when I'm not wearing a coat or jacket, it still feels a little odd to wear a hat with shorts. That's probably the toughest look to...
So Binkie, do you have a silk one? How does it drape? That fur-trimmed one is beautiful. I assume that one is lined?
Is terry cloth a really authentic choice? For some reason, it doesn't seem like it would be.
Are there any good resources as far as dressing gowns are concerned? I have read...
Hello! This is my first time posting but I've been a lurker for more than a year. I've found this forum to be a treasure trove of helpful information, so thank you all! I finally have a question to which I can't find the answer elsewhere.
I just bought a pattern similar to this one and I plan...
