That Slant model with the slant blocked into the crown refers to a Stetson. The Portis version of the slant I was always under the impression referred to the slant of the brim angle, not the crown. I cant find any vintage Portis ads to confirm this but every Portis Slant I've seen on the...
Sage green 50s Playboy. Sweat in decent condition, drank a ton of Lexol. Liner appears to be taped in a some time ago and strangely enough there are no model/size tags behind the sweat. Just 2 red pieces of paper. Price tag: $10. Also pictured with an olive colored newer 50s Whippet. If...
Two more arrived today from Etsy.
Towncraft Deluxe cravat:
Penney's Towncraft
And for $4 I snagged this clip on bow tie. I'd never wear a clip on necktie and for a while I felt the same about clip on bow ties but I figure if they had them back then, they're legit. Plus most of these...

Scoty, that is the exact ad I have framed at home and was referring to. Along with this one. The color "Grouse" in this picture I have attached reminds me of your hat. It might be possible that was the exact color name. Only thing missing is the little gamebird pin.
Indeed some models did feature a grosgrain ribbon. However that leads me to believe the earlier felt bands are just even more of a rarity. All the more reason to preserve the historical integrity of the hat.

I personally would not do this. The felt band is what makes this hat so unique. I have several advertisements for the Dobbs Gamebird and Field and Stream. The hat was advertised as a rugged, outdoorsy sport hat. Not a hat you would wear in town or on business, but a hat to shoot game or to...
Taupe Dobbs Fifteen. Rust colored ribbon and 5/8" Salmon bound edge. 2 5/8" Brim
I was hoping 40s but after receiving the hat and seeing this sizing tag behind the sweat, due to the words being below the numbers as opposed to above them, also block depth listed, I estimate this to be 50s...
Arrived today, dry bash and not original box:
5 1/4" open crown and 2 3/8" brim. I would estimate this hat to be around mid 1950s. It has the leaf in the crest instead of stars, among other clues...
Now for the kicker
Possible date from the original store that sold it? If so it would...
