Let's See Your Watches! The Vintage Watch Thread.

I recently bought a beautiful (working) model 1883 Waltham sidewinder from 1903. Heavy rose gold (filled?) in an ornate design I have yet to see on other watches produced in the same year. All the others I've seen have been yellow gold filled or silver, and none with this amount of fine metalwork.

What Jacket Are You Wearing Today?

My late 60s Rogers Peet coat with fake fur collar and lining. So warm, and passable for the 30s.

Believe it or not, the last film I watched was "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" (1988). Love me some quality cartoon noir

Let's See Your Watches! The Vintage Watch Thread.

https://twitter.com/NumismatistNut/status/822966952989696001 I don't have the time to post the photos, but after watching my favorite movie, "Who Framed Roger Rabbit", i noticed the character of Dolores, the protagonist's girlfriend played by Joanna Cassidy and I had an identical wrist watch. I...

rockin' the breaking bad look! That's a nice sport coat! Love the shoulder structure. How old would you say it is? 70s?

    Show us your TIES

they're fairly narrow, if you look in the few fashion illustrations that feature knit or square end ties. Here's a link; http://www.thelifenostalgic.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/1940s-mens-fashion-trousers.jpg. third gent from the left has a skinny-ish (skinny for the 40s anyway) square end tie.

    Show us your TIES

that first late 40s/early 50s tie is actually early-mid 50s. Maybe circa 1953-1955, because neckties began to lose their boldness and crazy patterns and become more conservative and narrow (some would say boring).

Anyone know anything about fountain pens?

I would file this under accessories, because this is a finishing touch to my look, as well as something I fully intend to use. Recently purchased this gorgeous fountain pen (restored and sold by professionals at the pen market). It's a 1940s Penlawn, and beyond that, it's all anybody knows...

    J.L. Taylor men's fashion catalog, 1927

I've always loved the variety of suit lapels in this era. They're good references for someone like me who can only afford the 60s reproduction belt backs (in the sense that the purists turn their noses up at the 60s-does-30s/40s sport coats, saying the lapels make it unable to pass as a vintage...

    Question about fountain pens

not sure if this is the right place to ask... anybody ever hear of a company called penlawn? i bought a restored 40s fountain pen made by penlawn, and even the website i bought it from knew nothing about them.

This "sucks"... the Hoover And Other Vintage Vacuum Cleaners

we have a 1950s electrolux that still works perfectly, aside from a missing wheel. We were recently offered a lot of money for it, though i can't remember how much. I believe it also says automatic on the silver part where the hose attaches. anybody know the model name or years this was made? I...

    Time capsules

my grandparent's house is a bizarre mashup (not counting the equally bizarre and quirky behavior of my late grandparents) of the early 60s, when the house was built, the early 70s, when the kitchen and upstairs bathroom were renovated, and the mid 90s, when the good furniture was sadly gotten...

Anyone Else Stuck in the Early 1930's ?

for me, it's anywhere from the early 30s to the late 40s, when my family was doing just fine/ all of the family photos that i've been shown seem to have been taken. i don't romanticize things too much. But being your average American in the late 30s up to December 6th 1941 would suit me just...

Need a little advice about Fountain Pen Hospital

they're just looking for cash. I wanted to send my grandfather's 1952 Shaeffer to them for repair, because hey very tip of the snorkel was bent, like somebody dropped it. They said it would be 98 dollars to replace it, but i went home and filled it (after carefully researching just how to fill...
