Richard Overton, Oldest US veteran, dies at 112

God bless him. I saw a news piece on TV a few years back when his town celebrated his birthday. It showed him trimming his hedges, very spry and alert. Cigars and whisky everyday. He seemed like a very nice and mellow gentleman.

    Show us your waistcoats/Vests?

Thanks again, guys, and just to follow up: At Christmas I opened a box from my daughter and low-and-behold, there was a lovely Filson Western Vest in charcol color in the box. This kid is amazing. I have no idea how she knew I was looking for a wool vest with lapels, perhaps she over heard...

Red Wing vs. Chippewa Engineer Boots

Where are you guys finding your Red Wing engineer boots? The only engineer boot that I see offered by Red Wing is a model #988, and it does not look like a high quality traditional US made Red Wing boot. That’s all I’m seeing on the RW website. Thanks!

Feet Up! The Work Boot Thread

Just got my Red Wing 608’s back from a factory resole. I love these boots. Very light and comfortable, although the sole wears more quickly than my Vibram soled 899’s. This is my second resole for this pair of 608’s. I read were people are concerned about the break in time for Red Wing boots...

Here’s another Akubra hat question: I’ve been wanting to acquire an Akubra Cattleman for awhile. It seems like the way to go is buying an Akubra from The Hattery, or from David Morgan which makes more sense as I live in California. However, I believe that the David Morgan Akubra Cattleman is a...

    Show us your waistcoats/Vests?

Hi folks, I thought I would post to this older thread rather than starting a new thread and creating clutter. I really like cw3pa’s vest (see above) and would like to acquire a similar vest. I am looking for old-timey style, wool, something heavier than a suit vest but thin and fitted enough to...

Feet Up! The Work Boot Thread

I hope they keep making the 1155. I think RW May have dropped the 899 from their catalog, which is a shame if they have phased it out. I love the 1155, and I have had 608’s and 875’s in the past, all very good, but the 899 with the 8” top and the Vibram lugged sole has been the best for hard...

    Pocket Knife

The Swiss Army knife has been my EDC ever since college when I worked at the REI store in Northridge, CA, where someone bought this knife, had the scale engraved with my name, and coincidently enough returned it upon which the warehouse manager passed it on to me. I can’t believe how long I’ve...

Feet Up! The Work Boot Thread

Those are really cool. They look like Daniel Plainview’s boots in “There Will Be Blood” :)

Feet Up! The Work Boot Thread

Here are the two pairs I am on currently: The ropers are Redwing 1155’s and the lace ups are Redwing 899’s. I’ve just stated wearing the 1155’s as my 899’s are in need of a resole. The 899 is a very rugged and comfortable boot and comes with a Vibram lugged sole. It’s the closest thing that I...

    Cowboy Boots

Man, some sweet boots you folks got. I wear Redwing Pecos work boots, but they’re more like a roper or Wellington, and off the shelf, except I buy the B width that Redwing offers. I have heard that there is a gentleman in Riverside or maybe Norco, California, who makes custom boots, everything...

    BARBISIO Brothers

That’s great info, Daniele. Nice hat! I wonder if that YouTube footage is from the Cervo factory. From your last two sentences, it sounds like Barbisio is currently not in production? I am really enjoying mine. Cheers

Thanks for that. I have heard mixed things on Cervo, most things positive. Are they making Borsalino as well?

    BARBISIO Brothers

Thanks, guys. I’ll post pics as soon as I am able to. So, are all of these hats made in the same place, like bike frames or camera lenses?

My question: how to post pictures? I have uploaded pics to “my media” and then inserted to a thread post, but it seems that they are only visible to me. Do I need to link to a remote picture hosting site? Sorry if I am asking the obvious or going over old ground, but I can not seem to find any...

    BARBISIO Brothers

Thanks. I’ll do some more searches. Sorry to make redundancy, I know what you mean. The pics seem to only show when I am logged in. Is this correct? Obviously I am a new goofball.

    BARBISIO Brothers

Hi Folks, I am hoping to get a little clarity on this hat. Recently bought new at the Village Hat Shop in Long Beach, CA. I went there to check out some beaver felt fedoras, something a bit classy and formal for going out in. They had three beaver hats: a Stetson Pinnacle, a Borsalino, and this...
