Sounds like a great system.
I really don't understand why anyone would rather smell cigarettes than cigars or a pipe, though. Maybe I have an unusual olfactory sense.
I buy jeans at Lands' End for about $25 on sale (everything else from there is just to keep me warm and dry :) ). One nice thing they do is hem them to order. (Does RL or the fancy-schmancy stores that sell RL?) Even though I'm only 5'-4", it's hard to find jeans that are long enough. [huh]
Well, I can go to a local vintage store and buy a suit for ~$60 to $80. Then I can take it to my tailor and have a little work done for $14 to $30 (I won't buy a suit if it doesn't fit pretty well to begin with).
I saw a PBS program on that crash a few months ago. As I recall, the KLM pilot was not cleared for takeoff. The copilot reminded him of that fact once, but the pilot proceeded to take off again.
Learning Solo Jazz Moves
Once again, I'm not an expert on what I'm writing here. I'm a regular gal who likes to dance. But I've found a few things that are helpful for learning some solo jazz moves and dances (like the shim-sham).
Use a full-length mirror. If you haven't been using a mirror...
Phoning in your Moves
Perhaps one reason that today's lindy hop doesn't look as it once did is that our sensibilities are so much different. Dancers used to get wild and crazy; today, a lot of people want to be tragically hip, or at least very serious, and that doesn't work well with what I...
Liz Claiborne.com has some nice looking linen wide-leg pants:
No flaps on the back pockets (one thing that really makes a woman's rear end look bigger). They're dry clean only, though.
Go Down, Death
Some people find solace in writing letters of condolence to family members (or responding to the letters).
I'm not a lover of poetry, but this one, I think, has stood the test of time:
Go Down, Death
by James Weldon Johnson
(A Funeral Sermon)

In these cases, who is the bigger fool: the fool, or the fool arguing with him (or her)? That thought is enough to make me cease and desist from most arguments.
The Big Apple
I don't know the Big Apple either, but they do it around here to "Flying Home" by Lionel Hampton. There are a lot of big, really old-school moves done in a circle, and at one point, the dancers stand side by side, across from their partners, make a "roof" with their arms, and...
Other swing dances:
Charleston, described in an above post. There is 20s, 30s and 40s Charleston. You can do it with our without a partner.
Balboa, an close, upright dance you can do to fast music. It isn't a flashy dance, but more of a dance to enjoy your partner and the music.

The Powder Room Gets Results
All of you were right--I had too much hair. Yes, had--I went to my hairstylist last night. She cut more layers into my hair (it hardly had any) and said that my hair was the worst possible length for keeping it off my neck. It's much more managable now.
Since...
I've loved vintage houses, clothes, movies, furniture and music as long as I can remember. Maybe it's because I loved being with my grandparents (b. 1894 and 1904). They lived in an old house with old pictures, furniture and appliances. There were neighbordhood kids there to play with, too. They...
