Thanks for starting the thread Brent - I too am excited to see what you think of the swatches and some natural light photos when they arrive. I'm going to be planning another hat with Michael most likely next month and I will prod him for his thoughts on the Nutria bodies as I'm sure by now he...
So I'm now discussing my hat with Mr. P.
I can't decide on black or anthracite - It's mostly an OR clone but I'm bumping the brim up to 3"
Thoughts?

Haha! One can only hope. I think I see how your math makes sense though. The Nutria western I have is a lot softer than the beaver westerns, and somewhere in between there would feel pretty close to the 7X.. Interesting.
If memory serves he mentioned he has access to XL mid-weight beaver hat...
Yeah, that's a stunner - I looked closely at it a few times even though it was way small for me - If it was bigger it would have been a battle. Great buy.
Thanks for mentioning it to him Brent. I had a feeling you might have before even seeing this as he sent me an email a few hours ago. I am self employed and handle all of my customers directly as well as doing all of our designs and shop drawings and I have to set aside some time to actually...
Just have to continue my Canadian bombardment of Fruno. I think we know a thing or two about beavers. Our country was practically built on the backs of our fine felt producing friends.
An easy read writeup about the beaver / fur trade:

He had just added them when I placed my order which was about 1 month ago. When I first started speaking with him he hadn’t added them to his site yet. Michael is very forthright so he would most likely reveal the felt source if asked.

I dropped the fedora lounge name and even the deadlyhandsome name!
Do you have a price list from him you could pm or email? That was in large part what my inquiry was about. Since Akubra doesn’t make a black CD I was thinking of getting a black OR clone and wanted to keep the price down. Also...
Sounds like it's going to be a nice hat Brent - Bit more western than most of your Agnoulitas?
I emailed him on both his standard email address and through etsy over a week ago for an inquiry. No response. o_O
Ah it's all good fun - I'm a man who enjoys good banter and a friendly bit of poking and am often on the dealing end. It's definitely a beautiful lid. Was it from the bay or a secret marketplace only you veterans are privy to? I definitely didn't see it although I have been pretty busy as of late.
Beaver pillow quality designations are hard to track and are written in Z’s rather than X’s
That’s a 7Z CBP you’ve got there. Good pull.

It’s most certainly maple syrup, and the box is so well preserved because it was obviously kept in an igloo. Silly Americans..

Yeah that makes sense and kind of what I figured.
You are right that once it’s programmed it would be easy to scale up or down and produce several.
The prices they are selling for make sense to me. Probably about what I would have into it if I was to produce one myself. The point was if the...
I don’t see why not. Making the blank would be about an hour long task for me. I don’t have a 6 axis CNC machine myself but I have a shop that I work with who does. It wouldn’t be the cheapest thing in the world to have them mill it that’s why I asked the question of whether hat blocks are a...
I admit blocks are not something I have yet started to research. Is there not a reference or some blocks in existence that was used for them?
How do they work exactly? Are several of the same blocks used for different sizes?
Being a woodworker with a wide range of traditional hand tools as...
