That's ones a beauty! Love the diamond padding! From a good seller too! I would have definitely bid on it if it wasn't too big for me (as if I needed another one...) Glad you got it!
Cal- Leather is a very small operation. And I know they took a bad hit in the Ventura fires last year. But, afaik, they are still operational and producing jackets. I found that calling was always the best way to contact them.
Thanks All! The bike is a 1972 Honda Scrambler CL350. Kind of the first versions of "Dual Sport" bike marketed for both off-road and street driving back in the day. (But in reality it wasn't much of an off-road bike.)
With its larger front tire, cross bar steering, and distinctive upswept...
I was putting some plates on my new city Moto runabout, and my daughter snapped this photo of me wearing the recent horsehide Taubers purchase...thought it looked passable enough to post, for those who requested a fit pic.
I've always speculated that a Sheene without a chest pocket would have an amazing minimalist look. I'm glad someone was finally brave enough to actually order it- turned out beautifully! Good score!
Here's my personal observation (and what I've been told)... Aero measures differently than you or I might. They really stretch the leather to its maximum length and then take the measurement at very the outer limit. Consequently, I've found that my measurement at 25 inches translates into their...
Under $500 is tough...Johnson Leathers is one of the most reasonable vendors around for good quality custom work. And domestic. But probably not under $500.
You might have an earlier version of the Vicenza Dark Seal. From what I understand, the earlier run of the Vicenza "Dark Seal" hides typically looked almost black. At least my Dustbowl is like that. It looks black, until I put it next to a truly black leather jacket. My Dustbowl is just now...
Thanks for the link. Nice one. But sadly, I've had to give up on vintage Levis suede truckers. As much I love their look and quality, and heritage...the sleeves are inevitably always too short. The Type 3s especially seem to have shorter sleeves. That's why I'm particularly excited to see Aero...
Alan used to have a bucket full of some vintage Talons, but it sounds like he finally ran out.
I've been able to find a few vintage Talons on ebay occasionally...
Personally, I'm not a big fan of the full action back. And, based on their other jackets, I'm assuming the arms are probably going to be too short for me. But at least it's a step in the right direction with the Talon hardware, the taper, the seamless back, outer sleeve zips, and the Horween...
I think you have to decide whether you're going for the cleanest look possible...or functionality. Personally, I like having an interior pocket and the convenience. And if I'm walking out the door, I'll tend to grab a jacket with an inside pocket first. I wish all my jackets had inside pockets...
I thought some in the FDL might find this interesting… a new line up of Gustin café racers made in California. A couple are produced with Horween leather. The black one is made with German steerhide, but at a lower price point. Not quite for me...but I find it interesting, and getting much...
Jeezus! That Lee is just perfection! I remember when I first saw it for sale I was thinking it was too short, even shorter than the Type 3s...but in retrospect that probably works just fine for this style of jacket. And I like the way it's got burnished shades of brown around the edges. That...
Over the years I’ve bought some truly unremarkable vintage Schott jackets that quickly ended up on the resell pile. The leather felt cheap and plasticky, the arms were too short, the materials used were just barely average.
And I’ve had a couple of successes. My “Restoration Hardware” Schott...
That's a beauty! I've always liked this Vanson style of cafe. And in horsehide! But I've found (after costly trial and error) that the problem with this particular Comet model is that it's so dang short! And the sleeves are typically extra wide- for gorilla arms. Not a good match for a V-shape...
