I agree with both the posts above. I am eagerly awaiting a garment made of that very leather and would of loved this thread to stay on track but I also agree that this whole back handed attack, disguised as debate, on the competition by the Bill Kelso crowd is distasteful and puts me personally...
I have all but given up on bidding on eBay auctions. I pretty much only BIN. Their is too much manipulating and sniping going on now. Unless it's a really obscure item you pretty much always get sniped out in the last second or the price gets ridiculous. As for paying, I pay immediately. No...
Having now had a long and very informative discussion with John Chapman about leather. It really comes down to the buyer (maker) and what they want. John told me a lot about what it took to get his Japanese and Italian tanneries to produce the kind of leather he wanted. Neither of them...
I don't know? The article I got it from didn't mention anything about nationality. As it looks like North Africa they could be from a number of places because there were Allied Forces from all over based there. Including my Grandad for awhile in the RAF. The guy on the far left does have a very...
http://blueingreensoho.com/ This is the best and possibly only place to get Samurai in the U.S. and you might be pleasantly surprised by the appearance of a certain red accessory but don't mention that to anyone. They offer chain stitched hemming and will give you good sizing advice.
Levi's...
Personally, I've always found Iron Heart a little uninspiring and gave up on sanforized denim pretty quickly years ago. I think they do offer unsanforized but I'm not familiar with what models offer it. Their back pocket arcs are horrible but can obviously be unpicked if desired. Samurai have...
Samurai do the heavy denim thing better than anyone else out there. They offer a variety of weights 19, 21, 23 and 25oz. All in a wide range of cuts. If you want a nice 'vintage' looking straight cut with a good rise then the 510 in 21oz is a great choice. 710 is a slimmer (but not skinny)...
Here in San Francisco, thanks to the fog, we can wear our jackets more than most. However we do get an Indian Summer which it seems is starting a little early this year. However the main reason August/September will be looonng for me personally is because I'll be waiting for my Shackleton vest...
Schitzo, they come in different colors. Blue, green, orange and black, these correspond to various activities that your shoe might be for. Blue is kind off the general purpose one, orange is for actual working boots/shoes etc. If you don't have much extra room in the boots I believe the black...
Schitzo, one thing I forgot to add about Superfeet (or any anatomically correct insole) is they make your foot 'learn' it's correct position again. So there is a bit of an adjustment period there for most people who's feet have gotten used to all the crappy OEM manufacturers insoles.
Red Wings with this type of sole can be a real bitch to ones feet. If you have room I swear by Superfeet insoles but bare in mind they cut the size down by about a half size inside.
As far as BR, RMC etc. being accurate to different contracts and having access to originals. Anyone who's collected vintage for any length of time knows the Japanese do have vast collections of almost every desirable item. From jeans to jackets. Piles and piles of them. Both private and...
I wasn't referring to it exactly but that's the idea. Rental cops, small town security, hired doormen and the like. All have a fondness for the B-15/MA-1 look depending on the climate where they reside.
Back to the sheen of BR or original nylon. A lot depends on the photograph conditions but...
Ah, the elusive question of the correct nylon 'sheen'. Like most things in life the truth lays somewhere in the middle. Of the original nylons I've held or owned none are as shiny as Alpha's newer versions. Most are in the ball park of BR or RMC. I have two BR B-15c Mods, the olive version and...
Sloan, I'm glad another member has come around to seeing why Buzz's are more money than any Alpha should ever be. It really is like comparing apples and oranges. As for fit, I've always found BR nylon to be one of the very few Japanese brands that will fit a Western frame. I'm not 6'3" of course...
