Thanks to TFL classified I'm now a member of the repro Irvin club. The ELC BoB I bought from CoreyM arrived and fits perfectly. I'll try and post a fit photo in here soon even though with the current weather here I'll be overheating quickly. Now the long wait begins until I am back in my home...
I would be coming from Plymouth, which is why National Rail gave a price of £108 but as I've now found out from family, deals can be found. If I were just coming from London it would be no problem and I wouldn't have even mentioned it. Not everyone in England lives in London though.
The...
Talked to my brother today. He is an old pro at finding cheap train tickets so he reckons a deal or two can be found. So, I am not giving up hope just yet.
I hitched to and from London many times when I was younger but that was 25yrs ago at least. I do have friends who live closer and could maybe break the journey up into cheaper chunks. I don't think I could persuade any of them to drive and spend the day though. I'll see if a plan can be hatched...
I looked into going to Duxford this year as I'll be back in England but as I'll be on a limited budget for awhile the over £100 just for the train tickets will most likely keep me away. Too bad.
Thanks for that tip John. I hope they don't have a run on them now and sell out before I can afford a set. Don't all of you Irvin nuts go grabbing them up all at once.
So, I think I am about to close the deal on the 2nd hand ELC BoB being offered in the classifieds. Just out of sheer curiosity. Where would be the best place to get some original WWII zippers, either whole or slider/pullers and who could one send the jacket to for replacement work?
Or is it...
I swear by a product called Renapur. Have used it on every leather jacket I've ever owned. No real odor, it does initially darken the leather slightly but that soon returns to pretty much normal. It does say not to use on aniline dyed leather but I have and have never had any problems.
Yeah, the work involved would be extensive. Removing sleeves, epaulettes and collar as well as all the areas of lining attached at those points. Just leave this one for some lucky tall guy and watch the Good Wear sales page and the classifieds here and on VLJ. 46 is probably the most common size...
John, if you're asking me which details bug me about the ELC then yes, the cuffs a little and the zippers. It would also be personally more pleasing if it were in an early war pattern but that's not a deal breaker. The things in it's favor are, I am from Devon and will be living there again when...
I'm moving back to the homeland (UK) in a few months and hope to have enough for an Irvin by the time next winter roles around. Because of the connection to where I'm from I want a Devon fleece from ELC but some details deter me a little. Might have to go with an Aces High instead.
S.I.T. It's also going to depend very much on what size you are. Most Japanese market jackets are going to be no bigger than a slim 42". With the majority being 36"-40".
Not to send this thread off track any further but two points about the A-1 and cape skin. Firstly, so few people have ever seen an original. They were also it seems, from the few images I've seen, even more variable than A-2's so an 'accurate' repro would be virtually impossible. It was also...
