Finds and Deals - Leather Jacket Edition

Maybe not "modern" but perhaps made within the past 30 years? The zipper pulls don't seem vintage to me.

Finds and Deals - Leather Jacket Edition

I might be wrong but I don't think this is 1940s. It looks like a newer jacket with some 1940s stylistic cues.

Not inexpensive but a very interesting jacket of Japanese origin. Posted with a "make an offer" option. https://www.ebay.com/itm/STYLE-EYES-Mens-Wool-Jacket-Red-Brown-Leather-Horsehide-size-40-Y131/293020780573?_trksid=p2485497.m4902.l9144

Your favourite jacket - RIGHT NOW

I think each jacket responds differently to different leather dressing products. All I can say is I wasn't impressed by the Leather Honey whatsoever. In my limited experience, Pecards penetrates leather the best and is the easiest to work with. Vaseline may very well be the exact same product...

Your favourite jacket - RIGHT NOW

Thanks for the compliments. Yes, the Bates jacket was very dirty and dry when it arrived. First, I hand washed it in the tub in cold water with a little Woolite dark. A lot of dirt came out in that wash and rinse process. I laid it flat on a towel to air dry outdoors. Then I set about...

Yes, if a seller lists an ordinary gold label Brooks for $400, then he's probably not going to accept an offer for $150. The jacket will sit, unsold, unless someone clueless or with cash to burn goes all in.

Your favourite jacket - RIGHT NOW

Right now my favorite is my Bates racing shirt. Purchased from the original owner who bought it new in 1968 and did some track racing and hill climbing through the 1970s. I’m hoping to get some pics from him wearing the jacket at races. The simple design and padded shoulders and elbows make it...

Is my leather jacket drying out?

You’ve mentioned this a few times in different threads. Any pics? This was on a brand new Schott horsehide jacket? Did you contact Schott about it? I don’t see how the leather on a Schott jacket would rip just by stretching.

Finds and Deals - Leather Jacket Edition

Buco made after Buegeleisen sold the company. Buco jackets from this era aren’t nearly as sought after by collectors.

Finds and Deals - Leather Jacket Edition

Brooks jackets priced at $350-up are not deals. They’re nice jackets but common. One can get a nice Brooks gold label for < $200.

Nice design. Leather looks like plastic.

    Verifying my M-65

I have no knowledge about the General branded zipper. The zipper on my jacket is aluminum and unbranded. It's not the smoothest-operating zipper around. Your brass zipper is superior, IMO.

    Verifying my M-65

Looks legitimate to my eye. I have a 1969 M-65 in great condition with the original button-in quilted liner. They're great jackets.

Someone snapped this up quickly. The mottled-brown effect reminds me of the leather seen on the vintage brown Lesco jackets. Very nice.

Finds and Deals - Leather Jacket Edition

Yep, I get the patina thing that comes with owning a vintage jacket. Every scrape, scratch and stain tells a story. I guess what I’m trying to say is I’d be more accepting of those stains if I caused them myself, if that makes sense. I’m giving that jacket some serious consideration. It would...
