I like this film. It's about two people who can't get along, but can't get over each other, either.
As for Hayworth's character being an oddball, well, only fools fall in love, right?
Joie,
Here is a link on learning to dance that might interest you.
Another on dance etiquette.
A link to the Mercury Cafe.
And a link to the Denver Turnverein.
I've also sent you a PM with info specific to the Denver swing dance scene. Don't feel like you have to memorize all of...
My favorite minor occasion is a pot luck with my best friend. We have dinner and then watch a movie or go to a dance. Dances don't feel like occasions to me because I go so often--it's more like home away from home.
Several years ago, my then-boyfriend gave a Thanksgiving dinner and nobody showed up. I once had a Halloween party and two people showed up.
Part of the problem is that some people just can't say no, as in, "I'm sorry, but I have plans. Let's get together another time."
As for dress, maybe...
Maybe somebody or some group of people can bring about change, but whatever levers need to pulled are out of my reach.
I do try to be a good guest, though: I RSVP, dress for the occasion, say hello, thank you and goodbye to the hostess, make conversation with others, and I go easy on the...
Miss Neecerie, I agree with you in principle, but I stopped entertaining years ago because of all the things the Mike in Seattle mentioned. Guests don't bother answering invitations, they say yes and then don't bother to call or show up, they eat and run, they cancel at the last minute...for...
I'm trying to remember my last "occasion." I haven't been to a wedding in about 15 years, Xmas and Thanksgiving are usually days at my parents' house, and I no longer feel a desire to dress up for Halloween.
Kerry, I think the black shoes would not only be more practical walking on a lawn, but they would look better with your black dress. If the lawn is wet, it might mess up your suede shoes.
I would add a colorful accent (scarf, big flower pin, sash) and a hat with a brim to go with the season.
I normally like blue and brown together, but as Martini said, the face and band don't look good together. And I'm not a fan of brown and black combos.
Can you get the blue one with a black band?
I painted my house a few years ago and it turned out very well: green body, lighter green on the dormer and gables, light gray trim and dark gray doors. The virtual paint tool at BenjaminMoore.com really helped me see what colors would look good, and it kept me from making some big mistakes...
Women with a very narrow build don't tend to look good at a 45 degree angle. It makes their body look even smaller and their head look larger. A little like a l0lly-pop.
A couple of characters from the TV show Saturday Night Live. (It's a show where they do live comedy skits.) Chris and Pat were so androgenous that their coworkers couldn't tell their sex.
I, myself, am really not a girly-girl, but even I look and feel so much better when I sport a more...
Today's Rocky Mountain News carried an article on looking good in photos.
Here's the link, an another on the same subject:

Thora, my hairstylist tells me that haircuts aren't vintage or modern, just hairstyles. I was thinking you should try a salon that caters to older ladies and then I read it in your post. My stylist has her own salon, and she's really good. If she weren't, she'd likely go out of business.
Oxblood and purple
How well would oxblood shoes go with a purple blouse? I have an outfit of dark green pants, a gray jacket and a purple blouse and black sash. Black shoes would go with this, but I don't have any.
It would be nice to have one meal like that (half of it taken home for leftovers).
But I'd hate to eat the whole thing in one sitting, let alone eat like that for a week. Why? First, I hate that lethargic, bloated feeling I get after I overeat. Second, my clothes wouldn't fit. The third...
