The ABSINTHE is really neat as well with its Silk Finish. I find it to be very cool that Stetson is now going to make an Open Crown Silk Finish hat. I would love to see one in person.
Very interesting. I don't ever remember seeing a Hat Corp Of America product with a blind stamp for a retailer. I do know that the extra large Cavanagh Edge round stamp makes the hat fairly early. Probably mid-30's.
GORGEOUS!!! Beautiful felt and trimming materials on that hat. The tall crown is superb. What does the stamp on the sweatband in the forehead position say?
Bump
Are there any other vintage hats out there with cloth sweatbands?
I just won an auction for a Knox Vagabond with a cloth sweatband, I will post pics of it when I receive it.
+2! Great looking hats.
After I get my tax refund, I hope to buy the Boss Raw Edge in Silverbelly from JJ Hat center. I love the open crown block profile and the wide kettle curled brim.
This advertisement is extremely interesting, Steve! Its a style of hat that could have also been seen in 1960's America. A porkpie-eske styled crown with a short/high flanged brim. Just proving once again that all styles come back in time. :yo:
Do you talk out of your ass all the time or just sometimes? You were the first one who insulted me and questioned my integrity. I was talking about a product....you made it personal. Look back in the thread, if anyone has painted themselves into a corner its you. I have nothing to prove, nor do...
Read what I actually wrote and not what you THOUGHT I wrote. All of that is MY OPINION but it is not JUST my opinion. My opinion is shared by many others who have had the opportunity to work with both products. You have your opinions....yes. You like Winchester.......let me say this for the...
Yes, because its an inferior product. If you block and pounce a Winchester body and then a Fepsa body for the exact same time in the exact same way, the Fepsa body will be nicer WITHOUT extra and unnecessary work.
Yes, you can absolutely over pounce anything....vintage or modern....and still...
Eric, my personal preference when it comes to sanding felt is always by hand. Even though it takes longer and uses much more physical effort, hand sanding allows the person who is sanding the ability to "feel" the felt better. It is extremely easy to "oversand" felt with a power sander but to be...
Ah...the dreaded "I told you so" moment.....I know them well. :D
Depending on where the uneven spot/spots are, you may not need to remove the band. Where on the hat are they located? Under the reed of the sweatband or the ribbon?
If they are located under the ribbon, then I have had great...
Akubra more than likely does not pounce further than 400 grit. I would take a 220 to the rough areas (going in a counterclockwise one way motion) and then finish with a 400 grit in the same manner. This should take care of the uneven roughness. Do not press too hard, but rather let the sandpaper...
Yes.....I am letting this go......

Except a soft finish isn't everything. Can a very very fine finish be gotten out of a Wichester Beaver Body.....sure. But the color saturation is still bad and the shellac impregnation is still bad. Plus, as you have stated before, the hatter has to work much harder to achieve that finish on a...
