New Custom Monarch 'Drifter' (size 44) from Dave Sheeley

I believe that it was: dark russet horsehide Switchyard replica. It convinced me that Dave had both the ability to do the project, but also the feel for that pattern that was going be necessary to work it up from scratch.

New Custom Monarch 'Drifter' (size 44) from Dave Sheeley

I’d say that there is little to split them. Dave’s seams are very neat indeed, this lining is comparable with FW jackets that I own, the Colt buttons are greatly superior to the stock casein buttons on my Journeyman and Brakeman, and still a little better than the buttons on my original Dust...

New Custom Monarch 'Drifter' (size 44) from Dave Sheeley

The little ‘rugby ball’ half gusset does improve the forward movement a lot and there’s no lift when arms are raised. The full gusset that you see on USN jackets gives practically full range of motion, but this wasn’t the style that I had in mind. Freewheelers uses this device a lot (both my...

New Custom Monarch 'Drifter' (size 44) from Dave Sheeley

** Autocorrect has defaulted to Shelley, but apologies to Dave Sheeley** I’ve just received this custom order from Dave Sheeley (Mavrickson on FL) following a very enjoyable discussion stretching over a few months to develop the pattern. I’m delighted with the result and the fit. Last year, I...

Aero Sneak Preview - Tweed Three-Piece Suit and Leather B-10...

Old Town offers a range of patterns influenced by styles from late 19th to mid 20th centuries (e.g. the Marshalsea is more of an Edwardian cut so more narrow, slender; while Borough is more relaxed wider cut). Just like any manufacturer really, I wouldn’t bother trying a Cafe Racer as it...

For 30s styling I prefer Old Town.

Help Replacing Leather Belt on Barnstormer Coat.

I’d contact Dave Sheeley on here. He has done some stellar dye matching a leather replacement work for period cuffs.

Good Wear Ventura / Imperial vs. ELMC Californian

Dave is literally putting a jacket together for me today. I can wholeheartedly recommend working with Dave. It has been an absolute pleasure to work up the pattern with him.

How many new jackets do you have coming (and how many potential ones)?

Is that one of Dave’s? I recognise that flooring and those French seams! I think that I’m just behind you. Fine looking jacket!

What are your 2019 leather jacket buying plans or aspirations?

And me, just awaiting my goatskin Monarch replica coat from Dave in this combination, then I’m done.

    Flared or Bell Shaped Jackets

I’ve posted these images before (of a Brakeman, which has a very similar silhouette), but worth a repost. Compare the stock ‘brand new’ photo of a Journeyman that you posted (stiff collar, flattened jacket, exaggerating flare) with the following images of broken in Brakeman coats. This one...

    Flared or Bell Shaped Jackets

I am now on my second Journeyman and I have a Brakeman too (very similar silhouette). When new and without break in the flare is more exaggerated in photos. You won’t notice it once it has started to crease and mould to your body. Good choice: fine jackets.

    Freewheelers Caboose Jacket

I’m in sympathy with this view. I have sold/traded up to end up with a black deerskin FW Journeyman, a dark russet Shinki HH FW Brakeman, and (in several weeks) a brown goat Monarch replica from Dave Sheeley. All well-fitting, 2-3 season, high quality, 5- or 6-buttoned jackets/coats. Three...

New Himel transcontinental railroad - what do you think, keep or return?

Too big? Are you referring to the XXL in the original post on page 1? If so, I agree, but that cost is long gone. My comments refer to the replacement L in post #110, which is now too trim IMO. Personally, I’d advise selling and looking for an XL instead. They are out there, I passed on an XL a...

New Himel transcontinental railroad - what do you think, keep or return?

This reflects my experience with two Freewheelers Journeyman jackets, which are not dissimilar in style the Northlander. Your smaller jacket fits you in a similar way to my 42 Journeyman. With a thin shirt, if I hadn’t had a heavy meal, if I didn’t inhale too deeply, I could convince myself that...

What Jacket Are You Wearing Today?

This is the replacement for the fabulous Journeyman in Tatanka Brown (size 42) that I had to sell on to fellow FL member, Northern Monkey (posted a short while ago). Recently purchased from TiltRotorFlyer through the classifieds, this one (also rare hide and rare size) will get a lot of wear...
