Definitely- Let ksozay put you in touch with Cal Leather. Gwen saved a Cal Leather jacket of mine, pulled it back from the grave. It was also dry and cracking. She might be able to breathe new life into this one...
Definitely looks like a Cal Leather of Ventura. Most likely Horsehide. That 6 panel back, the gusset-less sleeve zips and the ring pulls were a combo that was only made by Cal AFAIK. Also, the way the shoulder seams are sewn is very distinctive. Good score! Hope it fits.
Unless you want to shrink the jacket, I would strongly advise against doing the HWT to your Jerky HH. HWT made the Vicenza on my jacket very stiff and dry (or at least putting it in the dryer.) I had to apply several coats of Lexol to get it back to near supple again. However, the HWT did age...
I recently bought an Aero Type III thru Thurston Bros. (I should really do a write up on it.) I ordered it in the Vicenza Blackened brown. Definitely a boxy fit. After the fit jacket, and measurements, when I took delivery, it was still too loose and too long. IMHO a Type III should fit tight...
For vintage/second hand jacket hunting, upper Haight St. is probably your best bet...the street is packed with vintage boutiques and second hand stores. Happy hunting!!
Beautiful jacket...and it does have a lot of similarities to my Restoration Hardware/Schott cafe racer. The hide looks similar- and these hides were amazing in having a very distinctive coloration, suppleness and a soft, worn, vintage hand. Also, the absence of gussets on the back is very...
Nice! Interesting to learn they offer different options on the pinstripes. Langlitz never mentioned it when I ordered my Cascade from them last year. But I'm happy with the way it turned out.
Thought I’d run this by my fellow FDL members, before I put it up on ebay. Offering a beautiful vintage Langlitz padded Cascade. This one is from 1981, as shown on the inside pocket. In amazing vintage condition, the black cowhide is super supple, pliable and thick. The lining looks almost new...
I currently have 3 Cal Leather CR in the horsehide. I believe they switched from horsehide to cowhide in the 70's. But ksozay would be more knowledgeable for answering that...
Nice write up on the Taubers. One additional mention- it is my understanding that Taubers discontinued the use of horsehide and only used cowhide on their jackets from the 70's on...when they changed their label.
Langlitz has amazing customer service. I like seeing Langlitz get more attention here on FDL. They really deserve it. Can't say enough good things about them.
Your jacket turned out beautiful! Stunning! And it'll just get better the more you wear it! Enjoy!!
