Superfluous is a lawyer, so I guess when he talks about wearing T-shirts, he means at weekends? I don't know much about the world of lawyers though.
@Superfluous, you buy a lot of expensive casual clothes, do you buy expensive suits for work too? I've never noticed you mention suits before. I...
@Ernest P S, I'm still trying to process the concept that a T-shirt can be the centerpiece of an ensemble.
If you're 17 years old and wearing a Clash or Nirvana T-shirt because (you think) its (allegedly) retro cool message signals to others something about you (that you desperately feel you...
@Sloan, I'm sure they'll spot me for what I am the minute I walk through the door rather than mistaking me for a gentleman, but next time I'm in the U.K. I do hope they'll let me have some of their slippers so I can have a taste of the good life.
'Dress jeans'! He he he he!
@Ernest, Seb, yes, ethically produced. If someone showed me a decent quality heavy white cotton T-shirt that was ethically produced (no child labor, no bleaches in the water table- or something), then yes, I could be persuaded that it's a 100$ shirt.
@Sloan, Edward, re: GQ & Esquire 'dress...
@DWTH, a T-shirt with a pit to pit of 20 inches? That's like a size 36 or 38 right? I don't think anyone bulk buying pizza and potato chips at Costco is that small.
@Superfluous, well, as I said at the start of my last post, I wasn't replying to anyone in particular, just throwing out some thoughts, so please don't imagine that we are miscommunicating. I think you can rest assured that I'd address any issues I had with any of your post directly by name...
Trigger warning!
I'm not trying to troll or attack anyone! If that's how you feel, maybe you just shouldn't read stuff. I think you all know by now that I'd reply directly to anyone I had an issue with.
My observations about this are leading me in a couple of different directions, so I'll just...
So many of us buying Costco's own brand to wear with our 1000 USD made to order, details pondered fastidiously leather jackets! LOLZ!
Glad I'm not the only one.
Good god! Olney!
When I was a student in the U.K., I dated a girl from Olney and went there a couple of times. It's right outside Milton Keynes.
But it's an old village, very small. The kind of place where everyone knows everyone. If you walk into the 'pub' by yourself, it's like the beginning...
@Edward,
Good question. The last time I looked, they were both manufacturing in China (hence the low prices). And you're right about quality and China.
It's interesting that ring spun 100% cotton shirts can be made and sold in packs of three for 10 bucks in China, and yet in the rest of the...
@Seb Lucas, I've never tried Uniqlo white T-shirts, and I'm pleasantly surprised to hear that they are good quality. I wear Muji white T-shirts as undershirts. These are also ringspun and wash forever without stretching out.
I think that despite the 'WAH!' factor of being *from Japan* the cheap...
@handymike,
Souvenir Repair is currently not taking orders (this is usually a way of saying 'out of business', but not always).
I've never heard of them or seen anything like that before. The Japanese usually pack winter clothes (leather shoes/jackets) in plastic boxes with bags of silica gel...
@kliffjimper123,
I agree with Doctor Damage. Appears to be non-mil spec label.
Without seeing photos of the whole jacket, it's difficult to advise.
But if the fit is good, condition is good, and price is right, why not go for it?
Originals in good clean condition will be few and far between...
The fact that I'd rather spend my weekend giving my family quality time than obsessing over the postings of strangers on the internet seems to be quite a revelation to some. Its a comment on the quality of their life, not mine.
But seriously, Japan experts who've only ever been to Japan on...
Just as a follow-up (not sure if anyone cares now), but I called the Shinki tannery, and now I know what's going on.
I have to say, that a non Japanese guy can go to Japan on holiday, walk into a store and buy a jacket like any other customer, and without speaking any Japanese walk out with...
Surely shorts are the next hipster thing? Right now, they've got a bad image, but all it takes is a Japanese faux heritage brand to reintroduce them for them to be unquestionably the next must have item!
I'm gonna invest in shorts right now!
