Hmmm... I think we have different opinions on what really makes a felt great. For some the finish is the most important thing, while for others the feel, the floppyness, the durability whatever is more important.
Also take into consideration, that some felts are treated with special...
Just the other day I had the pleasure to finally smoke the Cohiba my girlfriend gave me for my birthday back in November. I just sat there with my glass of whiskey, closed eyes and a bright smile upon my lips. It's not very often I get to smoke these babies, but I celebrate the few times a year...
Make it three. When I called Optimo first time in '03 I was also told by Kevin, that the chocolate brown contains 95% beaver. I can't prove it, so I didn't write it above. The felt makes an excellent replica of the Raiders Fedora, no question. It is just not what I ordered.
That a pure...
They never claimed to me that their felt was all or mostly beaver
Well, someone must have said so, because I wouldn't have ordered from them otherwise, as the 'almost pure beaver' was THE reason for me to do so.
I also specified that I wanted a 'beaver lightweight felt' and not a 'beaver...
To be honest I didn't take any offence in the post he made on Austin's board. And I wouldn't if I hadn't ordered from him neither.
He is very straight. Maybe to straight for some of us, as he doesn't use the typical sales hype or diplomatic ways to say something on a forum. But just like us...

I know what you mean Sergei, but allow me to say that I was truly treated as if we had been friends since kindergarten.

Thanks for all the input.
I'd like to learn a bit about vintage hats in general, so I guess that the Stetson book is outta game, as it only covers one brand.
But talking about brands; I'd also like to know, what brand you like the most when it comes to vintage hats Art.
Thanks again...
WOW
Now, look at that!
What a nice demonstration of before and after.
Now just watch out not pull all your hats over the block, unless you're going for clones ;)
I can imagine that with this succes, reblocking can become quite addictive.

Marc
Greetings!
I know a couple of you have books about vintage hats and how they're made etc.
Would you recommend some of them, please? I'd like to learn a little more on the subject than the 'needle test'.
Also, do they still produce these books (would be easier for me to get them here in...
Sorry for you MK.
But I think you made the right decission in sending it back, as you'd get disappointed any time you'd look into the mirror with it, if you keep it. Better being disappointed once for all.
Good luck on your hunt.

Marc
My Petersbros. (bullet proof) has held up extremely well to all kind of weather, be it sun, rain (for hours), snow or whatever. It still looks as right out of the box and I've really worn it.
My London grey Optimo has also been soaked a few times and it didn't really hurt it. Maybe it has...
I always thought that most of the current offerings of eau de cologne and after shave smell far to sweet and / or "soapy" and have therefore over years used the German brand "Tabak original" that has been produced for at least 50 years.
But now I made a discovery and even got it as a gift...
Holy smokes, that has to be the most classic conformer I've ever seen. I've only seen some in plastic or metal before, but never in wood. Looks like a piece of art.
Would you please explain what you mean with "the other part"?
Regards,
Marc
Ok, I know you asked about non Indy props, BUT:
how about a real good (and I know it'd turn out real good) Nurhache? I don't know how to spell that, but you know what I mean... that little guy from ToD...
What do you think MK? There's been plenty of them on ebay, but... well, you've seen...
