Just when you thought you had seen it all . . . (Warning: Not for the fainthearted)

Don’t forget they’re “repaired”. I’d hate to see what they looked like before.

Just when you thought you had seen it all . . . (Warning: Not for the fainthearted)

I’ve seen this look on the NYC subway - shame on me for judging a book by its cover. I had no idea they were trying to express their expensive tastes.

(Trigger warning) Are we giving too much credit for wabi-sabi/Japanese craftmanship reputation for uneven graining (especially in high visible area)?

He wants the option for smooth or grain only panels for an organic product like leather. Where even if you go smooth only, the panels will all evolve differently anyway with usage.

What Jacket Are You Wearing Today?

Shamelessly posting in here too. LW Lee 101J - to me, the best trucker design by far. Sturdy copper jeans buttons: Nice draw on the back panels too:

Why did you sell your nearly new aero leather jacket(s)?

I personally haven't dealt with Aero. But like @Canuck Panda mentioned, there's so many used ones around by virtue of their popularity - not just TFL. And they're appealing because you can get the jackets custom. But when getting a custom jacket, you generally assume the risks if you request...

How many new jackets do you have coming (and how many potential ones)?

Been away on vacation for a little while so wasn't so active on TFL as of late. Managed to grab my new Lee 101J and am really happy with it. The 5oz leather is thick and really dig the copper buttons - nice and sturdy. Gonna take some time to break this in, still fighting against me to hold its...

(Trigger warning) Are we giving too much credit for wabi-sabi/Japanese craftmanship reputation for uneven graining (especially in high visible area)?

Using mismatched hides is inherently a cost-cutting technique. It gives the maker more supply of raw materials and enables flexibility in constructing the panels. And specially dealing with an organic raw-material like leather which shows so much variation. Panel matching is basically a...

(Trigger warning) Are we giving too much credit for wabi-sabi/Japanese craftmanship reputation for uneven graining (especially in high visible area)?

The FCL e.g. definitely looks like artificial distressing to bring out the grain and seems to be a deliberate choice on their part. Probably following a trend. When it comes to made-to-order or custom jobs, I think there’s room to make such a request. Dependent on maker whether they will...

    Lost Worlds CHP HorseHide Jacket

As more experienced people than I have mentioned, give Stuart a call and highlight any concerns. In my experience, I’ve only had to ask for length adjustments and maybe .5-1” shaved off the hem. If you have any other leather jackets handy, you could send a fit pic along with measurements for...
