I don't think it's sloppy, that gives it a craftsman vibe. Leather jackets are supposed to feel utilitarian.
3-Michelin-star restaurants will chop up vegetables unevenly or leave big leaves in their parsley to make a dish feel rustic.
The more I learn of the vintage leather jacket industry, the more I see there’s a big shortage of makers and we need to train more young people to do things the old way like this. The amount of research, time and money people have to go through for a quality leather jacket is obviously...
What do yall do about t shirts sticking out from under your jackets?
Is it a bad look?
It seems if I’ve got less than an inch of t shirt sticking out it’s fine, but any longer and it starts to look bad.
Glad I could get some discussion going on “throat latches”. I want one on my next half belt because I find myself flipping my collar up a lot.
A removable throat latch sounds like something that would get lost...I don’t think any part of a jacket should be removable.
I avoid jackets with too...
What is the function of this little collar strap seen on many halfbelts like the original Hercules?
I’m guessing it’s for when you’re standing your collar up to shield from the wind, but I don’t know.
Ordered a jacket this weekend from an American shop. It’ll be a perfect 3-season jacket for non-daily wear and now I know enough about fit to order custom. I haven’t seen any mention of this leather in the annals of the leather jacket internet so I’ll make a thread when it comes.
Down the line...
Do tanneries do tours?
After the shutdown I’d like to visit Tuscany and look around. I could get back into my Italian studies. Flights from NYC to northern Italy* have always been amazingly cheap.
*Tuscany is not strictly considered “northern Italy” by the Italians but it’s pretty far north
Nope. First horsehide jacket I ever held was an Aero (Vicenza) and I was amazed at how light it was. Didn’t seem that stiff either.
But I’ve got a steerhide Aero and it’s heavy.
Bumping this thread was bad news for my 401k. Still waiting on my first Aero to get made and ought to stay off TFL until then.
I’d love to see these jackets when they’ve accumulated more grain though.
In my experience this helped a bit with a wrinkled lambskin Cole Haan jacket I had before I got into vintage leather jackets. I hung it outside my shower to get it steamed then ironed it with a dry pillowcase. I wouldn't bet on it going away on its own, it would probably take repeated ironings...
Sure. I’m finding it quite hard to get a pic that correctly captures the color.
The best way to describe it is a Hershey’s bar with added clay-red undertones. Medium-brown in general. In some rooms you’re wearing a reddish brown jacket, in some it looks chocolate brown.
My first A-2 was this...
My replacement A2 came in this week.
I just want to note:
The real wool knits on this one are very nice.
This is my 2nd 5* jacket with this "Reddish Goatskin" and, having handled several different leathers in the last few months, this leather always impresses me. Definitely recommend anyone...
Hmm...they got back to my 2nd email promptly and sent me a return label.
So ultimately I would say this is UPS's fault and not Noble House's. But I wonder why they didn't respond to the first email? Both were sent to the exact same address.
