Borsalino Grand Prix Qualita Superiore today. Very soft and pliable.
I have surface cleaned the liner before, but probably needs a soak so it doesn't look so filthy.
Sweatband is stuffed with an Italian newspaper, dating to the mid 1960s.
Today I wore one of my first felt hats purchased in 2020: a vintage homburg in a dark plum grey, originally sold by Marshall Field and Co. Haven't found any info about the actual hat manufacturer; I assumed Marshall Field was just the stockist. Anyone recognise the crest on the liner?
Apologies for breaking up the Northern Hemisphere winter hats. Today is the first outing of my new SunBody Plantation. Perfect for the hot, rainy Brisbane summer. The Panama only comes out when there’s an absolutely 0% chance of rain, which has been rare in the past few weeks. Still tossing up...
Got my first SunBody a couple of months ago: the Golden Gus in Mexican fine palm. It provides great shade and is very soft and comfortable. The one qualm I have is that the crown measured an inch lower than it’s supposed to; a shame considering I love tall crowns, but I’ve grown to love it...
Got my very first Stetson on eBay (mostly got Akubras and a few vintage European hats). Is this the Rancher maybe? Brim is about 3 1/2 inces. Took more than a month to arrive from TX to Brisbane, Australia, which was agonizing. Marked as 4x Beaver (which I gather could really mean anything), and...
Got my first Lords hat! Charity shop find; only $40 Australian. It’s a vintage Fayrefield hat with little vent holes on the sides. Not many examples of Fayrefield hats out there; they were a Melbourne hat maker (mid 20th century?). Not great at photographing black hats. Definitely needs a bit of...
Great job on the crease, it looks terrific.
Thanks for the support, folks!
Completely forgot about the slouch, and didn’t know the squatter was a Superfine. I’ve got a vintage “featherweight” Bushman that’s marked as Sueprfine, but I guess that’s a discussion for another thread.
Bit the bullet and got myself an Akubra Sombrero after reading through this thread! Always loved a tall crown because it suits my large, roundish head. I asked to see all the size 59s so I could choose a cowhide band that had a bit of colour contrast.
Attempted to do a Gus crease, and was...
Akubra Homburg in acorn; one of my first hat purchases as I was first getting into hats in the early days of the 2020 lockdowns.
Ribbon needs a good steam! Currently re-configuring the collection to avoid stacking (and subsequent ribbon distortion).
Old thread now, but I'd like to report that I have seen several Australian made Stetson Open Roads on Facebook Marketplace in the past few years, unfortunately never in my size (59). Still pretty hard to find; I had to pull the old trick of changing my Marketplace location to every city in...
