Stefan super! I was waiting for that one, I thought it to be a JHS (maybe the other brown Dunn&Co is?), but doesn't disappoint at all. Love the thicker, heavier, glossier velours but you know that already ;) A winner!
Steve, Thanks! Good to know! I thought we had no clues of the velour maker for FGM, but maybe the labels were missing in the few past finds. I'll need to check again my other ones for labels. Great detection work!
Another one from the Norwegian-German exchange last year. I had this one on my watchlist for a long time.
Bayerland F.G.M. velour in black with sharkgill bow
Some wear and tear on the sweatband and a grease stain on the liner but the felt seems intact. For that price I would buy them every...
Now that we're all back, time to see some more old woolies.
Auction pics - Not my hat
I saved them because of the fine details that can really transform an otherwise plain black wool hat. A prime example of it's Era, I think. God knows should I have jumped onto it, had it been in better...
Thank you my friend!
Yes it is!! I checked Steve's site and saw you've found a similar one in the past, not a surprise! Thanks for the info! More velours are coming soon ;)
And some velours. It's been a while but if I am not mistaken this was the Rockel's pair.
Echter Bronnold "Sekunda". Medium weight velour in black. Great condition.
Thank you gents! And thanks to Matt for finding it for me!
Thank you Steve! I Initially thought to be a later one, but then Matt pointed out a similar one in your site from the '40s?
OK, here you are!
On second thought, it reminded me the other itch: prewar Italian velour... which are even more rare than the US and Stetsons, let aside being an actual GB Fu Lazzaro! Can't recall that one Daniel, I might have to go through the GB<'36 thread again ;)
I have a few hats for this thread from last year's exchange with @Mean Eyed Matt that never managed to post till now, all in special felt finishes. Due to lack of time the saved pics were meant for documentation only and thus are straight out of the box without steaming/brushing.
First, a NOS...
Thanks! Welcome to the hobby. Be warned though that if you have a soft spot for the very oldies in wool and other special finishes it's like going down to a rabbit hole with no obvious escape ;)
This thread deserves some more love.
Reiner Brillant Haarhut. This was the second great hat from a 5lot we bought last year with @Mean Eyed Matt, the other one being the gorgeous Erko velour that unfortunately it's a few sizes large and thus fits him better ;)
Beige-tan color, great solf...
That makes much more sense than importing ready velour felts and having someone else finishing the hats for them. My assumption (general) was mostly based on the small G.A. initials or mismatch on big vs small or non G.A. between liner and sweatband found on post war Dunn & Co until the full...
That's the right way to present this beauty Steve! I never managed to get decent pics of it. In addition to the great detection work regarding the maker, dating of this one -as with most (very few) Czech imported velours in UK that have passed from my hands- was (is) quite tricky, for me that...
