Grace Slick on Keith Richards et al. From MorleyView's interview with Grace Slick: antiMUSIC: I know you've said that all rock stars over 50 should retire but do you not feel periods of just wanting to get behind the mike at least and record? Grace: No because if I do something I do it...

Fashion Disasters OR Discovering My Inner Snob

It can be hard to get past a person's appearance. But it's worth it if the person has merit. Why don't you submit an article to the campus newspaper of your local college on this subject? I'd keep it positive and mention some stores where students can buy nice clothes inexpensively.

    "The Death of the Grown-up"

There are some songs from my youth that I still like as well. But when I started listening to great singers and musicians from the Golden Era, most of the music from my youth just didn't hold a candle to it.

    Santa Claus Is Over

Several years ago, I read a Muslim account of Christmas in a campus newspaper. A student said, "We grew up Muslim, and my mom would say, 'That's not from Santa Claus. I bought you that damn present!'"

    "The Death of the Grown-up"

I'll grant that responsible adults can have fun playing video games or dodgeball and it doesn't hurt anyone. But it just strikes an odd chord in me when I see 35-year-old men coming to work on a Saturday wearing bright athletic clothes that look like children's pajamas balding, 40-year-old...

    Sagging Pants and the Law

This is from the web site Manolo for the Men: Breeching the Peace August 31st, 2007. By Izzy Having deplored low-hanging pants before, Izzy was happy to see that communities are taking action to end the uncivil plague. Pushed to extreme measures, municipalities have criminalized the...

Can you remember where you were when you heard Princess Diana had been killed?...etc

Princess Diana: I don't remember; I had too many problems of my own at the time. Columbine: A coworker asked me if I knew where Columbine High School was and I told him the intersection. He said someone was shooting inside the school. When I left work, I drove through the rain to give blood...

Ok...Here's my rant! Lady is sexist?

My idea of a lady is, among other things, a woman who commands respect. She doesn't always make others feel comfortable, but they admire her. As for your professor, I imagine your younger classmates see him for what he is: a man in authority trying to look like a rebel; an middle-aged man...

How don't you go broke & up to your eyeballs in debt?!

lol Living within one's means is a very Golden Era way of life. Consider that people didn't have credit cards then and bankruptcy was a disgrace. Banks weren't as secure in those days, so people had to be very careful with their money. Even etiquette maven Emily Post said again and again in...

Ok...Here's my rant! Lady is sexist?

I think of a lady not so much as what she owns but how she acts.

Ok...Here's my rant! Lady is sexist?

One of my high school teachers said that a student objected to the term "people." As in, "OK, people, open your books to page 72." He asked whether the student would have preferred the term "maggots."

    The Digital Age

TMI! As for quality of entertainment, during the 50s someone once called TV a vast wasteland. What I don't like about the digital age is the abandonment of privacy. Not government intrusion, but people taking the time and effort to post the most personal details of their lives online. Of...

    Girl next door makeup?

A few months ago, I told someone that I use about 26 different beauty products. He said, "I thought you were just naturally beautiful." :) I just go easy on the makeup. No raccoon eyes, no tarantula eyes, no thick foundation. (If you're under 30, no red lipstick.) I use under-eye cream (for...
