Questions About the United States Navy Peacoat

X-post from another forum. My unissued 1962 USN peacoat with midnight navy kersey wool. It's super stiff still and very thick and smooth to the touch.

    re: altering a Aero Highwayman

Thanks for the kind words everyone! Two quick questions... 1) How do you know the jacket's properly broken in? When it can no longer stand up by itself? and 2) Is it safe to use the handwarmer pockets or will they eventually sag from usage?

Different jacket. Pretty much the same specifications except I shortened the sleeves and length like everyone suggested.

An update! Received the new jacket last night.. it's a bit stiff, but already a dramatic improvement imo. Love it now!

    re: altering a Aero Highwayman

It was the current regime, but it was from my instructions. Holly had mentioned that the front would be a bit shorter than the back so I took that into consideration when providing the back length measurement. It appears that the front sits a bit *longer* than the back however, so I wasn't...

    re: altering a Aero Highwayman

Sorry for the freakout.. :) Starting to really appreciate the jacket and can't wait for it to break in more to develop a better drape.

    re: altering a Aero Highwayman

Hmm.. Actually never mind.. I just received it and its stiff as heck. The lengths are fine.. Just a bit taken back by the boxiness of it, but it looks great when its left unzipped.

    re: altering a Aero Highwayman

Does anyone have experience altering a FQHH Aero HWM? Looking to shorten sleeve length and body length and would rather not pay the 150 dollars to ship back to Scotland. Is this even possible? Thanks!

    LaymanX I bought your jacket

Sorry, don't really check FL too often. Anyhow long story short, it is indeed horse hide and barely worn! I decided the length was a bit off and traded it in to Aero at my expense. My pain is your gain. :) Looking to receive a HWM in Jan, so hopefully that lessens the sting. Holly, if you're...

Horween USA and Aero Leather Joint Statement

CRAP! My FQHH cordovan half belt has the exact same grain as the heavy steer shown in cloudylemonade's example. Assuming Aero confirms this is steerhide and not FQHH, do I have to mail the jacket back for returns? I must admit it is insanely heavy to wear, but I just assumed that was what FQHH...

Having a half belt made by Aero

Not the op, but here's my 50's HB (cordovan FQHH) from Aero. *Edit: Fixed links

    New Half Belt from Aero

Would this design (back length shorter than front) exist in the 1950's half belt as well?
