    What are you wearing today??

cpdv, how old is the jacket ? if you can find an odd jacket with narrower shoulders it will really help with the early 20s feel. there's a lot of modern-20s-inspired looks around at the moment among the fashionistas. i think it's a good look.

    1920s suits

Patrick, it does look like that. what i wonder is: was it his own invention (possibly a modified knit tie) or a short lived trend worn by others ?

    1920s suits

this tie deserves another look. i don't think i've seen anything like it. it has no knot and appears to be pinned back half way down:

    Peaky Blinders

more stiff collars without ties from Crooks. the first guy is another dead ringer for a Peaky Blinder:

    Peaky Blinders

i don't really see the series as being very high on realism; more of a half remembered urban folk tale set in a romanticised past. within that context i have no problem with the barmaid. actually i have a bit of a weakness for her accent. :p

steamed chocolate pudding with tinned custard.

    Proper waistcoat length

as a general rule the bottom button of the waistband should sit just on top to about an inch below the top of the trousers (depending on height of trouser rise) so that the waistband is covered. you might see a hint of waistband if the bottom button is undone, but you shouldn't see any shirt...

    Peaky Blinders

i just looked through the 'Crooks Like Us' book and there are several examples of stiff collars without ties. this is one: i bet it was on the Peaky Blinders mood board (he even has the severe short sides).

    Norfolk Jacket

i don't own any jackets that are more than three button. i haven't come around to the higher buttoning Edwardian look yet. doubt i ever will, but never say never. ;)

Introducing my British Cinema blog ...

TT, have you seen 'A Cottage on Dartmoor' 1929 by Anthony Asquith ? it has at least one interesting jacket in it:

    Norfolk Jacket

Norfolk suit jacket with some unusual features, which belongs to a friend. it's British and dated 1952 but looks somewhat Edwardian. it has a stitched down faux-belt, and unusually, the pocket flaps are sewn under the belt (and the ticket pocket overlaps the belt !): It has the hidden...

ID and Date on a denim chore / work jacket

Xenophon, the spare buttonhole on the jacket is the clue to the fact that the pocket is a watch pocket. (not to mention that getting cigarettes out of a small gap like that wouldn't be very convenient). the pocket on the Pike Brothers shirt also looks like a watch pocket (despite what they...
