have you ever tried one ?
i'd like to know exactly how they do it before handing a vintage suit jacket over. is a machine involved or is it basically a professional hand wash ?
Rudie, thanks.
TT, as this suit is inspired by the American catalogue image i thought i'd try to remain as faithful as possible - though some details are different - and the French buttons looked a bit like chocolate novelty buttons on the jacket.
if i ever find some of this French fabric...
Baron, the cord is the Bookster stuff tracked down via their trouser maker after Bookster closed. i'm not sure what they currently have in stock but i'll email you their details.
i don't know who the actual cord maker is, but i think Old Town probably use the same one.
yes, jacket vintage...
thanks Fastuni. if you look at the sleeve there are a few wrinkles already and i've only tried it on a few times !
i think cord will quickly aquire a 'lived in ' look.
a skinny tie will always look skinnier though, when placed between wide lapels. the question is: do you want to draw attention to your skinny tie or not ?
i'm confused.
are you referring to the skinny tie (which was posted in an earlier photo) ?
you mean a dividing line between the left and right side of the upper body ?
Orpheus in 'show us their suits' thread.
the actor above - Pierre Batcheff - was French and the suit could easily be one of his own as Un Chien Andalou was a small art film and i doubt they would have had the budget for costume.
so it's probable , but not certain by any means, that the suit is...
two seminal art films in as many days ? keep it up chaps ;) (oddly enough i've just ordered L'Age D'Or by Bunuel and it has Un Chien Andalou on it.)
i'm afraid i don't have any interesting observations about this suit apart from the fact it looks mid to late 20s rather than earlier.
i like all of the looks except Jean Marais' last wide shouldered suit.
that's Juliette Greco, French singer and darling of artistic Paris cafe society in the late 40s- early 50s. it's very likely that her hair style and black jumper look influenced the later stereotypical beatnik girl look...
