unsold. if they'd taken good clear photos, given it a decent write up, and started the bidding lower i think it would have sold (and might have gone over $350).
i'm not sure about internal... there are certainly people who are just naturally stylish, but aren't dandies.
as for the motivations behind dandyism - that which makes a person want to achieve a high level of fastidiousness of dress - i don't think i'm qualified to say.
dandyism is often...
if the definition is too broad it's rendered meaningless. we're all dandies according to you simply because we have an above average interest in clothing. most of us who frequent the suits forum are merely 'well dressed'.
preoccupation isn't enough. many people are preoccupied with their...
no punks would be allowed the dandy label by my rules; they're street style. if you allow punks in then every skinhead, goth and new romantic will want in to.
no, the line must be drawn somewhere ! ;)
no downside, unless your girth is such that you need the extra ease around that area. i prefer the look of single forward pleats.
here's a vintage pair (not mine) :
while i think the subsections such as 'retro-eccentric' and 'fashionisti' are all very tongue in cheek (and the article meant to be taken in good humour) perhaps they do prove a point; that dandyism is a very personal thing.
TT, i've seen Zack wandering around in Hove. he doffs his top hat to passers by and the overall effect is rather performance art-ish.

if you go to Covent Garden check out the Vintage Showroom, Earlham Street.
thanks for the link Flo. funny stuff.
it's interesting that many in the book objected to the term 'dandy'. supposedly the authors didn't like the title but the publisher insisted.
i'm sure that among the elite who subscribe to the label 'dandy' there is much disagreement about who is and who...
TT, the release of 'I am Dandy' and 'Artist / Rebel / Dandy' recently might work in your favour; you can say the dandy theme has been more than covered already.
to me, there's always something about the modern dandy which harks back to the golden age of dandyism: 1800-1830.
this is the period when the Regency streets sprung up in west London and wealthy young bachelors would have lived in apartments in the same area.
there's the idea of the dandy as a...
Flo, it will always come down to a debate over the correct definition in the end.
the Adolf Loos definition is interesting, but i don't see how any of it differs from simply being 'tastefully well dressed'.
TT, agreed.
for me the term doesn't just mean 'having an excessive interest in clothes' - (someone may have an excessive interest in t-shirts, jeans and trainers but they're not a dandy) -
it's an aesthetic, a 'look' in itself; monocles, cravats, canes, opera pumps, waxed 'taches are all part...
