You want a Bespoke tailor in Melbourne!? Haha!! As the Singer man said to the lady: "Wouldn't we all? Wouldn't we all?"
I'm aware of tailors in Melbourne who do alterations and such, but nobody who actually MAKES a suit from scratch. If there are such beings within our metropolis, they're very...
I understand that and I do realise that. The length is fine, I believe. I know, it should end on a level with your fingers and knuckles. And I believe it does. But I'll double-check anyway, just in case.
One thing I neglected to mention was the rise (of the trousers). Jacket I'm not worried...
I shall certainly take a camera along with me. I know the people who run the shop (I volunteer there). I don't think they'll worry about photographs. I'll ask just in case, though.
I'm sure of this much, yes the suit is second-hand, but it's not a modern second-hand, if you get my drift. It...
Hi Baron, thanks muchly for your speedy reply!
It's very much a vintage-feel sort of suit. It's made of VERY heavy fabric. Compared with ANY suit that I've seen today, in any number of stores, the fabric is very thick. In my experience, and it's limited, modern suits tend to be made of thinner...
What Ho, everybody!
Today, I chanced across a suit at my local charity-shop.
It's navy blue with chalk-stripe. They're thicker than pinstripes. Single-breasted, and I believe, bespoke...I wasn't able to find any maker's label on it, and there's no sign that there ever was one (stitch-holes...
The name sounds vaguely familiar, but I don't have any knowledge of this company.
17 Jewels, 3 positions and a swan-neck regulator would indicate a watch of good quality, though. Swan-neck regulators aren't found on watches of lower quality because such fine adjustment isn't worthwhile.
But...
So that's why you suggested inner-tube or rubber hosing...I see now. Yes I suspected that was the reason. Thanks for the advice, chaps and chapettes!
Heading off to the flea-market tomorrow to go typewriter hunting!
On another website I've been reading, it also suggests the following options...
Thanks for the advice, Lizzie! It all sounds very sound and reasonable.
But I must ask, because I was considering this option...why is sheet-rubber not suitable? I can kinda guess, but I'd like to understand completely.
Guys and gals,
A question about restoration here...
Say I find a typewriter that I really want. It's in relatively good condition and at a price I can afford.
If I were to buy it, but needed to replace the rubber on the platen and/or roller-thingies (forgive me, I forget what those things...
Personally I prefer braces buttons to be sewn INSIDE, but there's no hard and fast rules about that stuff. If nothing else, the belt-loops provide a handy guide for button-placement.
I didn't say that they didn't have any training - Nearly half of all guardsmen were WWI veterans. I just wanted to point out the fact that when the guard was formed, and for a while afterwards until around the middle of the war, they were poorly equipped. They had to make a lot of their own...
The Home Guard isn't my strong-point, but there certainly are reenactment groups. Not to be rude, but in all honesty, the Home Guard was a bit of a joke.
Ever seen the TV series "Dad's Army"?
That was more a resemblance of fact than anything else.
Because all the best things went to the...
This is for 1930ArtDeco (Mike). This is the thread which LizzieMaine was talking about:
http://www.thefedoralounge.com/showthread.php?63425-Restoring-my-Grandmother-s-Singer-Sewing-Machine
My grandmother was a professional dressmaker for 30-odd years, and this machine was her workhorse for...
While this is obviously a joke, it does bear remembering that back in the 1900s-1940s, several major manufacturers (Parker, Sheaffer, Conklin, Waterman, Wahl-Eversharp etc), did produce gender-specific fountain pens. And pencils, come to that.
Shuttles and long bobbins can be tricky to find. Class 66/99 and Class 15 bobbins are still manufactured and you can still buy them today. But the really old shuttles and long bobbins...nah. Gotta take your chances with those at the flea-markets and online.
If you want a really vintage/antique...
