Here's a better photo of what I wore to the wedding, taken at the actual wedding-venue, by a cousin of mine:
My cousins, the groom, and his older sister:
The groom (in the cream-white waistcoat, on the left), his parents (my aunt and uncle), in the black three-piece, and the red...
I am a little bit closer to my goal.
My carbon-paper has arrived. 24 sheets.
I also have an old typewriter-ribbon tin, which I can use as a prop.
And a neat red, leather briefcase. I'll use it to transport all the small things there and back, to the show. And it can sit on the floor next...
The waistcoat is not grey. It's ivory white. I told you it was a terrible photo, but it was the best I could manage on the timer-set with this camera. As far as digital cameras go, it's an antique, and I didn't have the time to get a better photo. I'll sift through the wedding photos and I may...
I bought myself a bright red briefcase at the thrift-shop today for just $4. It's a bit battered, but I really like it. It came complete with the keys.
My cousin is getting married today, and I'm invited to the wedding. What do you think?
I apologise in advance for the focusing, this camera is really old and my regular one is broken. It's the best I could do.
I used to have a cut-glass ashtray somewhere around the house! I forgot what the hell happened to it.
IF I find it, I'll use it. If not, I'll just buy a cheap one and use that. I can't imagine they cost much.
I added another piece to my display.
It probably won't be ON the desk, but next to...
I have just been typing almost nonstop for 2 hours and I've done about four pages of typewriting.
My fingers are KILLING ME!! It's fun, but boy, oh, boy, is it ever a workout!
My plan is to type out the entire 'zine on my typewriter, and then photocopy the pages into 'zines. Staple or sew...
I'm using my Underwood to type up a 'zine (a small, self-published written work) about the history of the typewriter, which I intend to sell at the pen show.
I may scan it onto my computer and post it here...maybe. When the time comes.
The carbon-paper is on-hold for me at OfficeWorks. I'll go and pick it up tomorrow morning.
I like the ANZAC idea, Kiwilrdg. I may not be able to make it so overt (like having a hat and badges and such everywhere), but what I might do is combine one idea with another.
While it's supposed...
Others suggested the same thing.
My idea is to make it a "typical" vintage 20s & 30s desk. Full of all the right paraphernalia (either purchased, or borrowed from friends).
I will arrange the items on the desk in such a way that it looks natural. So that it looks used. Like, as you say, the...
I'm in discussion with a friend of mine. He said he could supply me with smoking-paraphernalia. I"m thinking of a box of matches, or a Ronson table-lighter, or a ZIPPO, and a smoking-pipe and ash-tray. He said he also has cigars and such things...
A friend of mine suggested a vintage...
I know where to find old maps, so that might be a possibility, actually. There's a shop I know which sells old bits and pieces of stuff. I believe it also sells vintage maps, of the British Isles, in fact.
@ Mike: You mean something like this, right?
That might be a possibility. I dunno if...
Hi Dhermann,
I know what typewriter tables are and what they're designed for. But something like that is outside of my capabilities right now. This is all supposed to be a temporary display for the pen show. It'll be a one-off thing for one day only. So what I want is simple things to dress up...
Oh those erasers! Yes I know the kind you mean. I haven't seen them in ages! I don't think you can even buy them anymore. You mean these things, yeah?
Haven't seen one of those in nearly 20 years.
I have a stamp-pad lying around. Maybe one of those old-timey, spring-loaded date-stamps...
Thanks for the tip, Liz, I'll see what I can rustle up.
I had a check of my local OfficeWorks (Aussie equivalent of 'Staples') and I believe that they do have some in-stock. I have to go out tomorrow on a rather important matter anyway, so I may as well drop by and see what they have...
Now that's gotta be one crazy article to read over your morning coffee.
"Hey look sweetheart, there was a riot yesterday".
"Was it about prohibition?"
"No, hats".
"HATS??"
"Something about guys smashing up other guys straw hats..."
"Oh you menfolk..."
I had thought of carbon-paper, but surely people don't make that stuff anymore, do they? I know there is a carbon-like paper, which is used for tailoring (my grandmother used to have a whole heap of it, she was a dressmaker by profession), but actual, like, typewriter carbon-paper, I haven't...
The stuff you see before you are things which I use every day. That desk-blotter is on my desk right now as I type. I recently changed the paper because I made a mess on it (prior to that, I hadn't changed the paper in nearly a year!).
If the gummy erasers are the ones I'm thinking of, I...
Hey guys.
In about a month and a half, I will be attending the 2012 Melbourne Pen Show. More about that event in the "Events" board when it comes nearer.
Anyway...
I'm a member of the Melbourne Pen Group. And for the past few years, we've held a table at the yearly pen show, putting on...
