this coat is made from flannel that is about 24 oz:
you can see that the lapel edge is pretty thick; fine for something like a mackinaw / peacoat, but it would look too fat on a suit or sports jacket.
i'd think the absolute upper limit for suiting fabric would be 22 oz, and that would be for...
it's not even sport as such, but the presentation of it. the most bombastic cricket ever used to get was the smack of leather on willow and some polite hand claps.
now there's a sexed up version (don't ask me what it's called) with huge illuminated screens, pumping music and the crowd whipped...
actually JP, by 'infantilisation of adulthood' i was referring more to the way adults are pandered to like children by the media:
-the babyish way commercials address adults on once-serious topics like finance.
-websites that are all bright colours and rounded shapes.

i'm equally embarrassed by any country (my own) that adopts the bombastic 'woo hoo, is everybody having a good time !!!' approach to practically any event.
it's all symptomatic of the infantilisation of adulthood... which would be top of my list of topics for this thread.
TT, agreed. there was dross made in the 20s-50s (some of which you've been watching for your cinema blog ;)) but i also think cinema's cultural standing has fallen significantly in recent years with the amount of other media such as computer screens and large TVs that you can now watch films on...
TT, most faces are era-less and would fit any period of wardrobe / make over, but some seem to resemble face shapes that were used in the popular culture of a certain decade.
cpdv, excellent... the jacket has a very 20s feel. how modern is it ?
(p.s. you DO have a 20s-type face. i have a more 50s face which works against any other era i try to wear).
