    1920s suits

cookie, going by the narrow-ish trousers it's most likely early to mid 20s. however, not everyone (especially older men) would be wearing wide trousers after 1925, so it could be late 20s-early 30s.

    1920s suits

Mr. Purple, does your 20s suit have a machine top stitched front edge / lapel edge or is it by hand ? (the stitch that's about 1cm in from the edge)

    Your Favorite Paintings

i think that what is 'great' about any work of art is actually impossible to define. critics love to dissect works of art to prove that they know how it's done - as if it's merely a bit of stage trickery - but if they knew how and why great art moves us they'd be creating the art themselves, not...

    Vintage Workwear

what i mean is: use the Old Towns as a starting point for measurements then add whatever extra you feel you need. 17" rise with 12" fly means 5" from bottom of fly to crotch seam which seems a bit much. 11" hem is perfect for early 30s.

    Vintage Workwear

17" sounds high but depends on your height and length of torso. what back rise ? there is no 'correct width' when it comes to hems. work trouser hems would vary from 8" to 11" depending on era, place of manufacture etc. as you're getting a pair of trousers made you should use the...

    Vintage Workwear

Rudie, i could make a guess, but i would look at your Old Town High Rises and base your measurements around those. they were based on a pair of old work trousers very similar to these, but British rather than French. i think Old Town have shortened the fly slightly; on those above i think it...

great suit TT. the date looks like an 8 compared to the previous 6. are the trousers narrower at the hem than the usual 40s 10.5" - 11" ? i hope you get some wear out of it. i have a 40s navy chalkstripe DB which i never wear.

belt back jumper / sweater - sold

the other one was a bit boring... i'm not surprised it didn't go very high. still, i'm amazed that other people spot such badly listed items.

belt back jumper / sweater - sold

this jumper has a belt back and NRA label which dates it to the early 30s not the 20s as the seller suggests. i was seriously hoping this jumper might slip under the radar, as it was listed on British ebay, in the women's section and had a starting bid of £2. no such luck: :(...

    Thank God for Ralph Lauren

according to Wikipedia : "...He left to establish his own company working out of a drawer in the Empire State Building, taking rags and turning them into ties" credit where credit is due. not only did he turn rags into ties, but he had a drawer as an office. it's a good job Ralph was a small...
