Vintage Car Thread - Discussion and Parts Requests

Why was it, that the weird muff extension for the defroster, always came lose on the drivers side? On my 71 Super Beetle, the heater worked good, as long as you were moving, if you got stopped for a wreck, well...........

    Your Most Disturbing Realizations

Every one is talking about the last episode of different TV shows. As far as I can remember, back in the 50s through the 70s, shows did not have big final episodes, they were on one week, gone the next. Was there a final close the story wrap it up episode of I Love Lucy or Gun Smoke?

Vintage Things That Have Disappeared In Your Lifetime?

I was told that, my Grandfather and a couple of my Great-uncles were in the back of a Ford Model TT when some one said, where's Ollie? Apparently, he had bounced out of the truck right on his head, the next morning he didn't even remember a thing and was perfectly OK!

What Was The Last Movie You Watched?

The Flying Fleet (1929) Ramon Navarro, Anita Page. Great Golden age uniforms! Still wearing capes, riding breeches, and high boots, plus great leather jackets! The technical director was Frank "Spig" Wead, with the full cooperation of the Navy! If that name sounds familiar, it's because, John...

    School and college sports

Looking back, our style of gym class was geared towards the military draft! We lined up every day, arms length, divided into squads, squad leaders, team activities, through a hand-grenade, I mean softball, even had to pass the Marine Corp physical fitness test, adjusted for age of course!

Secretary of the Air Force, Stuart Symington, who canceled the XB-49, became the President of Convair after he left the government. Convair made the B-36 Peacemaker, that won the contract. Poor Jack Northrop never learned how to play politics!

Interesting, that a song made famous in 1972, which in turn, was based on a song written 200 years earlier, is now selling computers in the 21st century!

    Past lives, do you believe?

That is a lot of it for me! You remember Dialing For Dollars, all they plaid were films from the 30s through 50s! Also, do you remember on Saturday mornings, they played The Keystone Cop shorts, dubbed with wacky music? I had no idea I was watching silent films until I was a teenager.

Patton, always said he was just a foot soldier in his former lives. Then again, he was Patton!

Vintage Things That Have Disappeared In Your Lifetime?

Before my time, but, talking to older guys I have known, in the 40s through the 50s, if you were in uniform and put your thumb out, you would be picked up immediately! Plus, people would go, some times, way out of their way to get the serviceman close to his destination. That went away after...
