I got 2,444 specifically in one section (confirmed by Hungary Tom) but there can be variance throughout the hat.

Yes, that 'bead' is a sleeve which contains the actual reed (or metal wire or monofilament). It looks like piping but is a channel for the reed material.
Dangit, I can't remember the term for that strip of material which holds the reed and has a margin which actually gets tack stitched to the...

You are one clever fellow, Bolty. Every step of that is impressive but that bow is tops!! I've got pretty good hands but no way could I even come close to the degree of finish you've achieved on this. Just super.
As for Graham's thoughts, I touched on that in post #131. I haven't talked with him since he received the hat and called me. He's not usually a very enthusiastic, talkative type but he went on for about ten minutes solid about what a uniquely fine hat this is.
