Thanks for the link! I've read the instructions and they look pretty easy. I don't know how effective they will be against stains this old, but we shall see!!
I've been meaning to make a thread about this for weeks.
About June or July last year (or somewhere around there), I bought a rather bog-standard, medium-range Panama hat from my local flea-market. It didn't cost me much, and it's certainly not of the first rate, but it's a Panama, it's good...
At home watching the fireworks. Boom! Boom!! Boom!!!
According to this morning's news, there was a spike in runaway dogs last night.
What is it with dogs and fireworks?
Reading this suddenly reminded me that back in the 30s and 40s, cartoons were shown in cinemas, not on television!! Shows like Tom & Jerry, Betty Boop, the Mickey Mouse & co. shorts, the Merrie Melodies and Looney Tunes shorts...all good stuff.
I'm going to my vintage movie-theater this...
There's a big old bluestone church down the road from my house. If I'm really lucky, sometimes I hear the bells ringing. Usually it's only for weddings, though.
I was on holiday in Amsterdam in Holland about a year ago. And I stayed there about a week. Every morning, my dad and I woke up in our...
Edward, do you cycle very often? I used to, and I'm tellin' you they're a pain in the ass. The comp. helmet law is the SINGLE REASON why in Melbourne, Australia, where I live, the public bike-share program is literally dead on its feet.
In every other city I've been to: London, Paris...
Compulsory bicycle helmet-wearing laws.
Stupid nanny-state.
I made myself a sort of new year's resolution that I'd start cycling again. I haven't done it since I was like 10 years old.
I don't...and can't...drive, because of my eyesight. But I'm perfectly capable of working a...
What does your grandfather's typewriter look like? They're pretty easy to use. But if you have any questions, you're always welcome to ask. There's plenty of people on this forum who can help you :)
Sincerity and its missus, Good Intentions, were kicked out of the house by their grandchildren. Namely, the "MINE MINE MINE Genaration', the 'Get Stuffed Generation', the 'Lack of Spine Generation', and the 'House of Cards Generation'.
I don't notice anything, but it may be the light of the photograph.
I suggest taking it to a competent dry-cleaner, draw their attention specifically towards the stain, and tell them to do their damndest, short of ripping out the waistband, to remove the stain without harming the fabric. The...
I re-ink my typewriter ribbons with a bottle of stamp-pad ink. So long as you don't tear the ribbon, and it doesn't disintergrate from age, you can use it indefinitely.
A bottle of said ink is like $5.00. And it will last for ages. You only need 3-4 good dabbles.
And I have a big stationer's...
I wouldn't bother reviving something if I didn't see it as having a purpose or point or reason to it. It'd be a waste of time if there wasn't.
Straight or safety-shaving is proven to give better, smoother, more comfortable shaves. And it saves money. That's why I do it. And that's why the...
This is my Singer 28/VS, Baron. This is what it looked like before. I took this photo right after getting back from the flea-market:
This is what it looked like after I'd got it home, (that photo was taken in London while I was on holiday there), and cleaned it up and got it running...
Strip the machine down. Clean it. Wipe it down. Oil it with sewing-machine oil. Polish the metal. Put it back together. Run it at high speed for a few minutes to work in the oil.
Sandpaper will help with the rusting, so long as it's not super-duper heavy.
