Too many passions. And too little time and too little money to pursue them properly.
But I guess the two main passions in my life are history and music.
Swing dance is like swing music. You can't beat the original, and no one today can quite capture the energy and magic.
Great list of films Swinggal. There's another thread at the moment asking people to name their all time favourite movie. If I was choosing from your list, I might go for...
Oh come on...surely NOBODY over 20 has just one favourite movie!
This hurts my brain.
It might be 12 o'Clock High (1949). Certainly my favourite War movie
These type gloves were colloquially known as "yellow gloves" but they are really tan. Unlined, with a button fastening, and made from light weight leather like chamois, kidskin, doeskin.
They are part of a group known as "court gloves" meant mainly for evening wear. Books of ettiquette cite...
US 1945 pattern are high waisted. They are beautifully made and cut too, with a a really nice hang. I prefer the darker colour to the earlier patterns as well, also the flapped rear pockets. And they seem to last for ever!
Most of the ones I've seen were made post-war so WW2 collectors don't...
I think the point people often miss about the Vintage repro ranges from Levi, Lee and Wrangler is this...yes, they are expensive, but they will last you much, much longer than ordinary jeans. As well as looking and feeling incomparably better.
In Britain ordinary 501s cost around ?Ǭ£40-60...
It's years since I saw that film. I seem to remember it looked like a civilian A-2 copy, but your picture has altered that idea. One thing I do remember is that in the opening sequence he stands in the jacket under a billboard which proudly proclaims "IT'S AN EASTMAN" !!
I have had quite a few original name tags through my hands over the years, some mint. The colour varies a lot - some of them actually were a very light tan, so i don't think yours are "inauthentic" as such.
Anyway, if you want them darker I would just darken them!..... with leather dye if...
Hitler?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s days as a courier were on the western front in the German army.
Hitler became a spy for the German Army, not for the communists! He was a young soldier in Munich in 1919 at the time of the socialist rising. He was already a committed anti-socialist and totally opposed to the...
Hitler?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s hatred of Marxism was formed long before the Russian revolution and the Bolshevik state. It was a reaction to Marxism in western Europe, particularly the growing power of the German Social Democrats.
The only positive ways Russian Communism influenced Hitler were...
wow! My idea of a grand day out! I am green with envy.
In the airshow season we occassionally get Spits and other WW2 planes flying over us. Best of all was a low level P-51! Not far above the tree tops. I couldn't believe my eyes. I never did find out where he came from or where he was going!
Music is crucial - live if possible. Home made music was an integral part of life back then.
But keep away from the hadacol, moonshine, jake and bennies.
I wear vintage all the time and have done for most of my adult life. But whilst I have many nice suits I see them as just one aspect of my wardrobe. In fact I only wear suits on special occassions like parties, evenings out etc.
One of the things I like about this site is the variety of...
It's actually very hard to get modern caps that are exactly the right shape, diameter and pattern of tweed. As always, I reckon keep looking on ebay, especially ebay UK. I have seen a few near ringers of late including a nice french casquette went for about ?Ǭ£13.
EVERYTHING turns up on ebay...
don't worry....
.....glad you resurrected it. I always meant to post this link in this thread.....some fantastic pics here, especially of mid-20th century Europe and Britain though you have to navigate around to find them...
The idea that Hitler was a Marxist and that his struggle against communism was over rival interpretations of Marx is quite frankly bizzare. Adolf will be spinning in his grave. He was obsessively anti-marxist. More than any other form of socialism he hated Marxism and he frequently uses the word...
