At 5'9 I can guarantee you he will get jackets of pretty nice fitting length since that is my exact height. I just have less 95 pounds. I'm right there with you about the numbered sizes vs S,M,L.- Edgar Laurel

That Route 66 is absolutely perfect IMO. Great fit no doubt about that. I can understand your thoughts about heavier leater, I'm a fan of FQ HH and I'm really easy with it but if you 're not comfortable at all with it of course you should o with a middle weight option- Edgar Laurel

If I were you I would most most definitely go with the Bootlegger just because I think you should always choose whatever makes you happy. The 30's HB or 30's Highwayman are two neat jackets and I would suggest them also- Edgar Laurel
