I can understand your thoughts about heavier leater, I'm a fan of FQ HH and I'm really easy with it but if you 're not comfortable at all with it of course you should o with a middle weight option
If I were you I would most most definitely go with the Bootlegger just because I think you should always choose whatever makes you happy.
The 30's HB or 30's Highwayman are two neat jackets and I would suggest them also
