Despite my reservations about the cut working on my frame (and my low cut jeans and untucked T tendencies), this thread has made it impossible to resist a classic Schott cross zip!
Have joined the club with a fully-circumcised 1994 618. Has clearly seen a bit of action in the decades of use but...
Funnily enough I can’t buy Bronson because their smallest sizes are still too big for my (Asian) frame. Had assumed they were aiming West but apparently it’s just a weirdly small window of sizes they cater to. Odd!
Yeah it’s a James Grose. Made in the UK but ironically I’d probably have to send it to Japan to get it back to the factory!
Ugh, it’s upsetting, but at this point I think the only real solution is to get over it and wear the hell out of it knowing that the resale value is now 0 (and that in all...
Yeah tbh am wishing I'd had a go myself now instead of 'treating' the jacket to a 'proper' repair. Lesson learned I guess. Many will disagree but I'm reluctant to leave a scathing review of an independent business in case I just got spectacularly unlucky...
Will LL fix a botched jacket by...
An update to this question—with a secondary question! Took it into a highly reviewed tailor and leather specialist for repair. He was extremely reassuring that it could be simply done without compromising the aesthetics by opening up the lapel, gluing in a small piece of leather and restitching...
On the subject of prison stripe(?) trousers, Bob Dong makes some heavyweight (16oz) cotton canvas ones I've been eyeing recently (but probably won't ever buy)! Think it's a 33L...
The tailor did a pretty good job I think. Took one look at it and said ”there’s something off with the shoulders” the line of the shoulders is much better now but I have since picked up another two(!) jackets so it still has to go!
New measurements are:
Shoulders: 44 (17.3ish)
Chest p2p: 51...
I‘m just hoping you’ve cropped a friend or partner out of the picture. Otherwise I regret to inform you that the length is the least of your problems as the jacket is clearly haunted.
Is this approx 1cm tear to the lapel of an otherwise beautiful horsehide jacket something that can be fixed (or ignored without further consequence) or should I run a mile? It’s washed and therefore quite supple horsehide, if that changes anything.
Withdrawing this as I’ve dropped it off to my local leather-altering tailor. If nothing else it’s a good sacrificial lamb(!) to see if his v low prices are too good to be true…
It's certainly comfortable around the shoulders - which is where OTR jackets usually don't fit me.
Interestingly, since I ordered this jacket 'off menu', 5* have updated their site with a number of new double riders including @MTS 's predecessor of this jacket, a horsehide non-minimalist Schott...
New to classifieds and of uncommonly small frame so not sure if this will be of any interest but I can’t really justify keeping this alongside a better fitting 5* double rider. I usually take 36 chest/XS and this is a little loose on me.
I think the Cidu stuff is pretty good at the price point...
Bit more photo spam since I managed to get out in the rain and the shipping wrinkles are sorting themselves out. I‘m not sure if the back could be less ‘foldy’ with different measurements without compromising mobility but I’m pretty happy with it as a first attempt at custom sizing!
(My jeans...
Almost disappointingly unfunky. Nothing but a very mild leather smell. However my kid has just tested positive for covid (again) so maybe you shouldn’t put too much faith in my sense of smell right now!
Ah! I stand corrected! The J24 was why I thought they had black zipper tape but clearly I was mistaken. I take it all back.
Very glad I posted on here before dropping 5* an email, since that aside they’ve nailed everything I asked for (OK, there’s an extra cm on chest and half cm on the sleeve...
Absolutely a lesson in leaving nothing to chance! Though I think they do use black talons on the J24?
Anyway, I’m over it now - it’s easy to overthink a jacket when you’ve spent the week obsessively refreshing the DHL tracking…
But while I’m overthinking… The big question is do I cut off the...
