    Help! Sweatband coming out

Thanks for the advise. I found the web site to Buckaroo hats and sent an email to them. I wonder if they can do ribbon replacements as well. Just figured a new sweat and ribbon would make this like new again. Maybe this old hat would go another 60 or 70 years.

    Help! Sweatband coming out

I have an old Brooks Brothers thats in great shape except the sweatband stitching is rotted and falling out. The leather is old and a bit stiff but not torn or cracked, Just all the thread is unraveling that holds this sweat on and together. I've taken this hat to several local sewing shops and...

    Poll: Fedoras or Homburgs?

Fedoras for me. I think a Homburg is suitable to only a select few with the right face shape. In my opinion, a Homburg tends to look a bit too dressy for everyday or casual look. Regardless of the shape of your head or face, anyone can pick the right brim width and crown height of a fedora and...

Short brim vs. wide brim fedora

At what point is a hat officially considered a stingy brim? My stingiest brim is 2" and anything less makes my head look too large. I would prefer at least a 2 1/2" brim but not more than a 3".

Anyone ever heard of Mr. Hats in Memphis TN?

Wormser in Chattanooga Mr. E Train, The Wormser hat shop here in Chattanooga is a very small little "hole in the wall" retail type hat store on Broad Street. Not a large variety to choose from. Lots of modern stingys and some cowboy hats, a few desirable hats but at full retail price. If you...

Found a nice hat at a great price but....

Very Similar The Capas "Untouchable" looks so much like the Western Express Designer Collection "Gangster" I wonder if they are actually the same hat with different labels. Even the feather and hat pin are the exact same match.

    Hats

Psycology Try using a little psycology on your wife. This works for me. When my wife mentions "how many more hats do you need?" I sell two or three of my least favorite hats, which seems to soothe her down, then strategically purchase an equal amount of hats but of a higher quality and price...

Found a nice hat at a great price but....

The Brand I was wondering what brand is the hat. It looks very similar to "The Designer Collection" from Western Express. They are made in USA but are wool felt and fairly inexpensive (under $30). I bought one about three years ago before I started buying vintage fur felt hats. Its an OK...

The Dumbest Comment I Ever Heard

Here's one I heard yesterday... Was getting my hair cut yesterday at a walk-in salon and the lady cutting my hair was telling me the disadvantages of wearing a hat and the effects it has on my hair and my head. Her claim was that prolonged wearing of a hat causes the shape of the head to...

    Anyone heard of Oleg Cassini?

Was out thrift store shopping a couple of weeks ago at a local Salvation Army Store that was having a half off sale on all winter clothing. I found a tan, short lenth trench coat that fit perfect (46L) marked 9.99 on the half off rack. So, for five bucks I bagged the coat. I've never heard of...

Anyone ever heard of Mr. Hats in Memphis TN?

Alter Ego I've bought a true Montecristi Panama since the deal fell through with Mr Hats. That along with a couple of Milans that I already owned should carry me through the hot summer months we get here in the south. I've had more of a chuckle over this deal after reading your posts on the...

How many hats do you have...?

How many? 12 so far. But this number changes ever so often. I'll sell a hat or two and turn around and buy one or two with the same money, the wife doesn't understand the reason behind this practice. Its probably an addiction or a fetish of sorts. I do try to keep the number below 20 for...

Anyone ever heard of Mr. Hats in Memphis TN?

I said I would post as soon as I got my hat or found out what the delays were, so here is my experience with Mr. Hats in Memphis: Had been looking at Mr Hats web site for a couple of months and decided on a Bailey Gibson Straw for summer, so 3 March I ordered the hat online using my debit. Two...

Warm Weather Hat: Holds Shape, Water Resistant, Crushable

I like a good straw hat in the summer. Panama or Milan works for me. Its so easy to reshape them if they get wet and bent up. I just wet them with a spray bottle and bend and shape or add weights to warped areas.

    Hat color selection

My everyday (beater) hat is light brown, and my dress hat is light gray. If I were going to get one special for myself, gray.

    Boater faction!

I would say if the Boater appeared in 1874 it must have caught on fast in fashion trends. (within 10 years) But thats reasonable. I believe the Fedora first appeared in 1891 as a woman's hat introduced in a theatrical play, so within 20 years it somehow converted to a man's hat and became main...

    Boater faction!

When did the Boater hat first appear? Its interesting to see the date of that print at 1874. I wonder how long the Boater has been around. Does anyone know its origins? Even what its original intent was when it was created?
