Where to get vintage watch fixed?

He did a great job on my grandfather's Hamilton railroad watch, but he screwed up my Omega Seamaster screw down crown and I had to get it fixed by the official dealer for a mint. On an old Zeno he also messed up aligning the hands so the hour hand didn't point right on the hour marker when the...

US Navy & US Marine Corp Boat Cloaks, and US Army Capes

They announced in 2015 along with the women's tiara and beret. If you want to stay warm you can wear the bridge coat or the all weather coat (basically a cheap trench coat) if you want. (https://www.navytimes.com/news/your-navy/2015/08/13/out-of-date-tiara-cloak-shed-from-navy-uniform-racks/)...

US Navy & US Marine Corp Boat Cloaks, and US Army Capes

For what it’s worth, the Marine Shop at Quantico will still make a Navy boat cloak as well as the Marine version. After years of fighting it I caved in and ordered one this summer (I know they are not authorized anymore but they go so well with my mess dress) and just picked it up yesterday...

    Fountain pens - ostentatious?

Its the person, not the pen Don't blame the poor pen for the owner's bad taste. As Balzac said: The boor covers himself, the rich man or the fool adorns himself, and the elegant man gets dressed.

    Favorite Uniforms

Not so sure I'm going to dispute that, I was in the Marines and now am in the Navy and nothing ever has had such a positive response from the fairer sex as my choker whites. And the service dress blues still look professional and imposing both in formation and in the capitol.

    WWII Crusher and Garrison Caps

Navy Equivalent? Does anyone know of a USN equivalent of the crusher hat? I know from "Down Periscope" that they existed but I haven't seen anything online or had luck from my searches. Did find nice NOS silver officer insignias for $30 though, even in original box.

    The Lost Art of Manliness

Art of Manliness I stumbled upon that Art of Manliness website some time ago, he actually discusses interesting topics. Among other tidbits, I did learn more about correctly using a safety razor from that website at 33 than I ever did from my father (who is a fine man, just didn't teach me...

my new frock coats and cape

Great finds Baron Kern, awesome boat cloak. I keep my eyes on ebay but sadly at 6'2" there aren't many old cloaks floating around for a fellow my height. You can still buy them from Marlow White and the Marine Shop Quantico but they want quite a bit for something I could only really wear a...

1930s Mens how-to-dress book recently sold on ebay

Available at All? I'm afraid being out of the country for a bit meant I couldn't read up on FL as much as I normally do so I missed some great opportunities. If anyone is still amenable to letting me get a copy I would be very grateful.

    Monocles.

Yes, I was referring to a rimless monocle when I said just glass. I'm assuming that I can follow advice I read earlier here to use cardboard cutouts to measure the right size then take in my prescription to an optometrists to make a perfect circle that exact size, correct? For adding grooves...

    Monocles.

Ordering Experiences Okay, been reading the posts with some interest. I'm in the less common situation where one eye is noticeably worse than the other (one needs correction the other does not) and a monocle would be fairly useful when stuck in front of the computer monitor so I'm will to give...

    Capes/Cloaks

I looked at that one too. Auction ends in about 6 hours but it is about three inches too short for my height and I just don't think I could bring myself to cope with such a heinous flaw!

    U.S. Army considers new uniforms

I thought about the Army-Navy Club, I just don't know if I would use it enough. I'd better decide soon, I'm junior enough that if I join quickly they'll wave the application fee. Still between school and junior's chemo my time is limited. Bolling does have some pretty good food, but it...

    U.S. Army considers new uniforms

You're right. Their store is wrong, the lining is supposed to be black. The cloak seemed little more than a badly done rough blanket with a collar poorly stitched onto it. Add to that the display model on the floor was done so poorly the collars didn't line up. I'll consider Marlow White...

    U.S. Army considers new uniforms

Boat Cloak Well, I finally made it to the Marine Shop in Quantico to check out there boat cloak. I must say I'm extremely disappointed. I wouldn't pay $200 for that let alone the $600 they want. Maybe Marlow White's offering is better but I won't spend anything without seeing the product in...

    U.S. Army considers new uniforms

I do have the Abbott's and they do have the hook closures. IMHO they are much better than the velcro. (Nothing looks worse than someone who has gained a few pounds and then simply slacks the velcro because they are too cheap/lazy to have it adjusted.) They are very comfortable as well...

    U.S. Army considers new uniforms

Now a find like that would be awesome. I wonder how many years I would have to wait to find a jewel like that. Incidentally I was at a function when I would have loved that cloak, mess dress to nothing to keep the lower half warm!

    Show us your Guns!

That is one of the best little tidbits of history I've read yet on this site, and I've read a lot of good stuff here.

    U.S. Army considers new uniforms

Johnson's is gone. Apparently they just weren't profitable enough. You can still buy the combination covers online and I like mine, but be careful, sizing on handmade covers isn't as exact as the plastic crap at the NEX. I'm a 7 3/8 but I had to get a 7 1/2 Johnson's. Nonetheless, it is...

    U.S. Army considers new uniforms

Offense was never taken. Actually my wife and I were both amused that you hit so close to the mark on different things, but not offended. I never checked if the exchange had gold fish or not, but the ones still available at USNA when I visited were about a grand and that isn't worth it to me...
