Can a vintage car still be driven as a daily driver?

This topic is one I can jump in on. My dad and I operate a garage business that he started 50 years ago. I literally grew up with cars. I've been in the business for the last 35 years and the last 25 has been just classic and collector restoration. I drive an original 1965 Chevrolet Pickup that...

Old smells, that immeditately transport you back in time?

Another one is on a cold winter's day in the crisp air the smell from the chimney from the fire burning in the stove. Especially at Christmas time at Grandma's When I had to make that trip to out-house after dinner. Now at home I catch that smell in the air as I'm getting home. My husband...

Old smells, that immeditately transport you back in time?

You mentioned grade school. How the smell of a fresh mimeographed copy. We used to get a kick out of that when the teacher would hand out something.

Forgotten Advertising Characters of the Era

I just scanned through this thread and I didn't notice anyone mention one of my favorite characters, The Hamm's Bear. Here in the Midwest Hamm's is still available and regaining a foot hold on it's popularity. I drink a large quantity of the stuff along with my other favorite, Grain Belt also...

    Old gas stations

If may jump in the '59 Ford photo looks authentic. In those years you'd be surprised at the factory color combos. Also if you ordered the car, you could get just about anything you wanted. Of course someone could have added their own personal touch. As to color film Kodachrome color movie film...

    Vintage Appliances

Hi, I have a very similar model Hamilton Beach that I've used for many years. It works great and has had no problems. Just don't get any utensils in the beaters. They will bend.:D

    Could you survive?

I just would like to jump in on this. I hear these type of remarks regular. I still use film cameras to this day. I've been an avid photographer for 40 years and when you get used to what you are doing it becomes quite natural. I very seldom ever have a bad picture and can show hundreds of good...

The Rise of the Term "True Vintage"

As time wears on a lot of designations become so overused they come up with more designations to separate the chaff.

Frustrated! Addressing people by their title, and other 'old-fashioned' sayings

HI, Great thread. Yes I go along with your thinking. I believe this is just another part of the decline of modern society. People dressing like slobs and so on. There seems to be a general decline in class, dignity, and self respect along with a lack of respect and consideration for anyone...

    Auto ID?

Of course the one on the left is "57 Chevrolet but I'm pretty sure the one on the is a 1955 Chevrolet V8. Betweebun the right couple you can see a little of the side emblem. It possible could be a '56 but I think stronger to the '55.

    Our own vintage town

How about the old "welding beanie" with a popular oil brand advertised on it. A lot of guys around here wore those in the garage.

    Calling all cars!

Thanks all for the nice remarks. 4 doors were probably the most popular. These 2 door sedans were one of the rarer models. There were even more 2 door hardtops. I think the fewest were wagons which are getting more popular now.

    Calling all cars!

A 1964 Pontaic Catalina was mentioned. I couldn't resisting posting a picture of mine. I bought it from the original owner years ago with a little over 26,000 miles on it. That's the closest I ever got to having a new car. I've now had the car the larger portion of it's life and put most of the...

    Vintage Coffee Makers

These were known as vacuum coffee makers. When the heat was reduced on the bottom after the water boiled into the top a vacuum was created literally sucking the water through the grounds back to the bottom. There were also many metal ones. I have a stainless steel one made by Westinghouse about...

    Could you survive?

Sure enough there were heavy issues and bad things back then but every person was not affected by every bad thing everyday. There are a lot of heavy issues and bad things today but every person is not affected by every bad thing today. Like TB was mentioned. There were a few cases around but...

    Could you survive?

Hi, I love these kind of conversations. I'd have to jump in and say that I'm one of these younger "old timers" that lived not much different from that most of my life. Even now, cooking on a wood stove, lighting the house with kerosene lamps, and even drive a '38 Chrysler for a regular car in...

head-on collision: old car vs new

I just have to jump in here. I have lived with and worked on cars all my life. I have experience with cars from the '90's back to the teens. Early cars with mechanical brakes can have questionable stopping distances but anything from the later 1930's up propperly maintained and in correct...

    Fridge Help

Hi, Actually R22 is mostly likely what would be in a refridgerator. R12 was mostly used in automotive air conditioning. It did appear in some home and commercial air conditioning and some freezers and refridgerators. Most likely older ones. Most home and commercial air...
