Beware of Lush's henna hair dye. It gets very pretty results, but it's SUCH a pain to apply. You buy it in solid, heavy blocks, like blocks of chocolate but much thicker. :offtopic: "Golden Compass" my foot. The book is called 'Northern Lights' and anyway, the compass isn't a compass, it's an alethiometer. Booo on bad book-film adaptations! That said, the film does actually look quite good, and Nicole Kidman's hair is pretty. -

I always think of the Eddie Murphy version of Dr. Dolittle as the absolute worst book to film adaptation ever. I loved the books as a kid, but the film is a completely different plot. I want hair like this. YouTube link to appallingly (but hilariously) inaccurate portrayal of 1940sness! It looks like it's held up by only two hairpins as well. It's probably a wig, so the hair would be coarser and easier to manipulate, but still. Why does it look so easy in tv-land?! -

I think the woman in this picture is wearing white stockings. I have a print of a slightly different version of the pic (It's the same pose, but from a different angle), and her stockings certainly seem white in that one. That's a Jemma Kidd lipstick, called Scarlet. Actually, I think it's Scarlett, as in O'Hara, which is kind of dumb because I don't think that nice girls in the 1860s swanned around in scarlet lipstick, as a rule.
