Thanks! Following your advice from the peacoat dating thread, I ended up buying two peacoats. A 42 circa 1949 and now this one from 1945 in size 40. The 42 looks fine over a t shirt, but is definitely better suited to having an additional layer underneath. Both seem to be unissued and aside...
I have a question about the sleeves of this 1945 peacoat I just picked up. Are these sleeve scrunchies correct? They are completely concealed while wearing the coat, but they seem like an add on and I'm not sure how i feel about them. My 1949 peacoat does not have these.
Thanks, I found your guide after I purchased, and that's actually how I ended up in this thread too. Great work on putting all of that together.
So for wearing over a suit, you think I would be wise to bid on the 23" coat? It's vintage from the early 50s if that changes anything.
I have found two from a seller on ebay, seemingly in similar condition, one with a tag size of 42, the other 44. I've enquired about his measuring methods and they are 22" and 23" p2p, respectively. Both are from the early 50s.
I was originally going to get the 44. But I'm gun shy on going...
When shopping eBay for a bridge coat, how much extra room should there be in the chest measurement? I measure about 42" through the chest, should I be looking for something with a 22" pit to pit or is that too trim to wear over a suit jacket?
