I want to correct this, the Borsalino is worn just a little on the welted edge and you can see almost invisible stitching but its hidden under the edge of the welt. I am sure much like you are describing the Cav, Feltfan.
Cheers
Scott
Dopey, I have gotten some hats out of storage to try to help you more but am not sure it will.
I have the following that was easy to get at:
John the Hatter
Custom made superior quality
Beaver xxxxxxxxxx
welted to bottom
no stitching
similar to balloon welt
Borsalino
Quality...
Hi Dopey, I wish to give you my input here and then will resign from this as I do not care for the conflicts I have seen on other forums. My thoughts are not so important to me to argue about them and I prefer to just address your concerns with facts that I am sure of and then give any opinions...
I am sure that edge treatments did add both decorative and functional aspects to hats but I am not a hat expert like Matt but am a collector. I agree with Matt that it was not the thinner felt that prompted the edging so much as it was that thinner felt required a bit more edge support and the...
Charlie, I too have some pretty good Borsalino hats. I have seen some of recent times that were not the same as the older ones. I find the ones my dad had ordered from abroad was far better than ones he purchased locally as well. I am not sure as to why that is.
Hi Karol, thank you for...
Hi Charlie and thank you. My dad bought us boys a hat there as well. I think the name of the store may have been Lord and Taylor not sure now. He said he had these made by the custom hatter there. I recall seeing a note from it long ago signed Burt. I guess that was his name. I think the note...
It looks as if I will have to enjoy my new hat experience all alone. I will update any one that may have an interest.
I heard back that my hat is in the process and has been pounded what ever that means. I hope it is not beaten up as some like the Indiana Jones style to be distressed, I...
Hi JD, I have a near identical hat minus the features. My hat is 100% beaver and a very fine hat. Its a very thin hat as well is my only complaint and it does not retain its shape so well. While my hat is also labeled Stetson I understand it was actually ordered from the Biltmore hat company...
Sitting on pins and needles would best now describe the excitement that I am exuding at this point. I waited for about 2 hours like a dummy that I am waiting for a picture of a hat I have on order to appear on the computer screen. I finally had the good sense to refresh my screen and there it...
Hi again root. I am just a little nervous here. I am not sure what you found threatening or belittling about my inquiry or thoughts but I would like to apologize for what ever you misunderstood.
I hope to be a wise man and will use all caution and make sure this is the last time I respond...
Hi Andykev, you sure do have a fine collection of books. I am limited to one called hatless Jack.
How can one get a copy of these books as you have?
Cheers
Scott
Hi Root, what is the Lotta Livin’ site ?
I almost did not read this post due to the undescript nature of it.
I own a few bowlers and all vastly different. Some are amazingly tall and others extremely short. One has a 1 7/8 inch brim and another has a 2 3/8 brim. 2 of them are sheer...
Thank you again, Matt .
I guess most hatters are a little too busy as I have emailed several over the past month with only one replying at all.
You would think in this computer age, that all businesses would incorporate some one that does email and customer relations.
I guess I was...
Hi Budward, I have both Stratoliners and Open Roads. The Stratoliners are considerably older and softer hats but shaped similarly.
I think I have one that is called a Stratoliner Aeroplane. Supposedly it belonged to Howard Hughes at one point. No proof of this but my father was quite a...
Matt, thank you for this posting . This is the quality of hat I am seeking as well. I do wish the Optimo company had answered my Emails. I really do want to get the best hats possible but I think service is an imperative as well. I do not see them posting on this forum. Is there a reason...
Hi BD, that sure is a nice testimonial and if I may say so some what of a relief for me. I usually do not do impulsive shopping but I was so impressed by his emails, that I was caught up in the moment and ordered what he deems as 1500x's quality beaver.
I received a halo looking plastic ring...
