On gender
My colleague, who doesn't have an account here, passed along the following info:
"All eyewear styles were unisex until the late 1930's and most were still unisex until after WW2. Women's styles slowly emerged after WW2 to the early 50's when separate male and female styles became...
Not to my knowledge. Pince-nez was unisex from my understanding. However, I will let my colleague on the Renaissance chime in w/ his thoughts as he knows more history than I do.
But Worth It?
That is a decision the individual has to make. It is either time or money. Buying on eBay is the less expensive route to go but takes time. If you have the money and are willing to spend it, a boutique optician may be worth a try. Only the determined end up wearing this eyewear!
Looks expensive
This looks like one pricey shop. I noticed on his website that he works exclusively with gold-filled frames. On eBay you can get solid 10k or 14k for $100 or less. Curious about his prices though.
The round shape lenses definitely suit your face. Send me an email at the Pince Nez Renaissance and I'll send you out a free pair of nose pads. They make a great improvement in comfort and security. All we ask is to use your photo, which you've already done here.
Can't beat the price for...
The eyeglasses look great on you OldFashioned! That style probably works on 1 out of 50 people, but it found its mark on you. Definitely not Harold Lloyd.
This weekend we will be having our nose pad giveaway on the Pince-Nez Renaissance. Send in your photo wearing pince-nez and we'll send...
Beautiful pince-nez, Warbaby! You have the rimmed lens in an oval shape which is hard to find. Most rimmed lenses are round, which don't work w/ most people. Good point about doing your own maintenance work w/ the cork.
I always wanted the 3.5 inch butterfly bow tie and finally ordered one from Beau Ties. It just didn't look right on me. Big disappointment. There is a lot to be said for the standard size.
12 pair and still growing! I wear all of them and have a good rotation w/ them. I am very fond of the low vamp Italian shoes which are hard to find these days. I've had tremendous luck on eBay as I don't mind used shoes. Mostly used Cole-Haan Braganos but a few others makes as well. They...
Hamilton Stafford

This 1952 Hamilton Stafford is my favorite watch. Elegant in its simplicity. I picked it up on eBay and then had a watchmaker overhaul it. Hamilton made some great watches and they are still reasonably priced.
Unfortunately not. However, there is an abundant supply of antique pince-nez available at reasonable prices. Antique sellers charge from $50 to $150 and eBay is usually under $20. As w/ eBay, buyer beware but you can get amazing deals.
Be bold, be daring. The Duke of Windsor broke many rules and set trends which are followed to this day. Conformity, for the sake of conformity, is BORING.
Thanks for the kind comments!
Silent Speaker: Personally, I've only worn them for 1/2 hr at most. A friend of mine sent me several pince-nez, all w/ different script lenses. I can't say that I've worn them for an extended period of time as it would give me a headache. However my friend has...
I've been a longtime fan of pince-nez eyewear. It is ashame that this beautiful eyewear fell out of favor in the 1940s. For twenty years or so I've wanted to wear this style but never saw pince nez in optical stores. Nor did I see anyone wear them in public. I figured there must be a reason I...
