You're right about that. With jeans and a t-shirt, you can just take it off and fling it, and your done. . . It won't look any worse the next morning when you pick it up off the floor either.
I'm interested.

I think it all spawns from laziness.
Seriously, who in their right mind (from a lazy point of view) would want to decide on colors, put on a three-piece suit, tie a tie, button on suspenders, tie their shoes, shave their face, attach cufflinks and collar bar, and comb their hair when all...
That is an interesting observation. Over here where I live, if you so much as put on a tie and buttoned shirt (even if it is still with jeans! - not that I've ever done that :p ) everyone is asking you what the occasion is. If you dress up in a full suit for work, church, or some other event...
I've seen some very nice spectators on ebay. The only problem I've had is that they are either too big (supposedly I'm 8.5C), or they cost more than a nice suit. I'm still looking for some nice black/white wingtips.
These particular ones don't make my collar any tighter, but thankfully, they DO prevent the collar from popping out over the vest - without them, the collar lines up just right with the vest where the points try to come out over it.
Is it a common problem for the collar points to pop out over...
I have to get one of these for my office. A 1939 Western Electric 302 Rotary Dial Phone, or something similar from that time period.
Does anyone have one that is operational? How does it sound?
Here it is on Ebay
Thanks for the pics and links Marc.
On the way home from lunch today, I stumbled on one of the few local antique shops that I've never been in, so I went in and found these. Since I didn't see your pictures yet, I think I may have just lucked out, since no skill or knowledge went into...
Great information! It's just what I was looking for. Thanks to BellyTank for directing me to this thread. I have a couple questions:
Do you have any pictures of the "collar pins" vs the "collar bars" of these eras? That way I will be able to make the distinction myself.
Do you have any...
Hello everyone,
Somewhere else in the lounge I read a recent thread with some pictures of a shirt and tie equipped with a tie bar. Now, I can't seem to find that post to reference back to.
Anyway, when did tie bars come into use? Where they around in the 40s?
On a similar note, what...
Cufflinks and studs
In the 1940s, were cufflinks in use for daywear, or were they generally reserved for use with tuxedos?
How about studs in lieu of the buttons on the shirt front?
thanks!
