Here's a photo of the Jaxonbilt, expertly modeled by your humble scribe. Oddly, I look exactly like Virgil Cole. And I agree Johnny, RBP left us too soon, but luckily for us he was very prolific while he was here.
I agree, and not by me either. The photo is missing from my Photobucket account too. Odd, since the photo is available on several places around the 'net, so I didn't think it would be a copyright issue.
Here's my third hat from Roy, also a Cavalry style in 100X. I wanted one in black after seeing the western Appaloosa, with Ed Harris as Virgil Cole, based on my favorite author's book by the same title.
Astute article. I say fedora wearers should embrace the dark side, after all look what happened with Harley Davidson. Any publicity is good publicity. Marketing baby, marketing!
"I had a farm in Africa...." I'm a big fan of the hat as well.
I really like how your hat turned out Mike. I'm curious, why didn't you go for a full custom job from the start? Was it for the divine madness of a hat project?
The 50X feels only slightly more stiff than the 100X, hardly noticeable unless you're holding both in your hand and looking for it. The 100X felt feels more lush. Not sure if that's the right word.
Here is another photo of the underside of both hats. Note the dark brown sweatband in the 50X:
And another closer look at the 50X:
This is after 5-6 years of wear, including a two week survival course in the Utah desert with rain, brutal heat during the day, freezing temps at night, etc...
You asked for it, here it is gents!
Here's a photo of my two Jaxonbilt Cavalry hats in Buckskin. The one on the right is 50X with holes for a windstring, the second is a 100X:
Congratulations on your purchase!! Always happy to see a quality craftsman get the recognition they deserve. Love the undyed Natural color. I have three of Roy's hats, two in Buckskin, but I really like the color you went with. Hmnnn, maybe an excuse for a new hat?
I say go for it. It's only hair after all and will grow back if you don't like it. Just be sure to keep the 'stache wide at the corners of the mouth so you get that "gunfighter" look.
I recently acquired a mint condition Korean War fishtail parka. Trouble is the cotton outer shell is still a deep green color, it looks too new!! I was wondering if anyone knows how I can fade the outer shell other than washing the shell a bazillion times.
FYI: I'm going for the Book of Eli...
In my opinion Jaxonbilt's conformer kit really makes it worth paying the extra coin to go custom. First of all I'm afflicted with a 7 /78 Long Oval head to begin with (comes complete with its own weather system), and all the little bumps and whatnot really made getting a proper fit next to...
All of Roy's hats are available in any colour you want, with matching or contrasting ribbons, and you can customize the styling as well. Jaxonbilt is a full custom shop.
The Cattleman is a nice choice, but you might want to look at the Cavalry hat as well. Nothing wrong with the Cattleman of course, but it's a pretty generic style that you'll see walking into any western store. I have the Cavalry in Buckskin with matching ribbon, and it has just a little more...
