My Churchill came in today. The ebay auction was listed as NOS, and it definitely seems to be unworn. the brim was almost completely flat when it came, very stiff with hardly any flanging at all, and no swoop to the brim. I added a bit of a downturn to the front, but I don't want to mess with...
I won this one tonight: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200644969188&ssPageName=ADME:B:EOIBSA:US:1123
I'm pretty excited about it, whether or not it's actually vintage, at that price. I'll post up what more info I can find about it when it gets here.
I was at the SoCal Renaissance Faire on Saturday, and talked to a guy with an awesome brown Adventurebuilt. I was a bit drunk at the time, so I forgot to ask him if he was on here. Even with the beating he'd given it over time, it looked fantastic. Might just have to get me one sometime.
I got my black Chatham back in November (it has a brass pin still), and I never noticed any powder on it at all. It's been a great hat so far. It's been slightly crushed a time or two, and been in a light Southern California rain a few times with no ill effect. I'd ask the shop to brush it out...
I'm sure I'll make several people here cringe, but I wear my fedoras with just about anything. I routinely wear them with t-shirts, and even zip up hoodies. On my lower body is either jeans or a kilt. Now that it's getting warmer, I'll probably leave my black fedora for evenings, and wear my...
My wool Stetson doesn't take to reshaping at all. I'm pretty sure I've shrunk it to a taper some from messing with it (before I learned the difference between wool and fur). Perhaps some hat stiffener might work to keep it in place? Should be able to pick some up at any western shop or online.
I do believe they are the same hat. Glad to finally have a name to go with it! Ironically, it's my least expensive hat, but I've gotten more compliments on it than any of my furs. Glad it's warming up so I can start wearing it again.
That's a beautiful color on that Knox. I have a 20 just like that but a little bit darker. Mine doesn't like to be reshaped dry either. Even steam wasn't enough for major changes. I eventually had to get some distilled water and a squirt bottle and dampened the whole crown. Then it took the...
Got this the other day from a fellow lounger. I absolutely love the color! It's a bit washed out in the first pic; the second one is much closer to the actual color.
I wish I was a bit better at creasing, as I didn't quite get it exactly as I wanted, but it's close enough for now. I worry a...
Thanks for the link and info! One of those $39.99 teardrops is very tempting.
Those optimos are fantastic looking. I can only dream of owning something that nice. Someday. . .
Where'd you get that Stetson for $35? That's exactly what I'm looking for, but every place I've seen have it for $50 or more. Does it look as good in person as the pic?
In Soviet Russia, brim tips you!
On a side note, I'm used to seeing the edge of my brim when I'm wearing my other hats, but with my stingy I can't. It wierds me out a bit. I guess I'll get used to it eventually.
I keep coming back to bodacious too. I like it, but it doesn't quite roll off the tongue like stingy does. I also keep saying it in a surfer voice in my head. . . "Yo, bodacious brim, bro! Like totally radical!"
Just did a synonym search for "generous" and one that came up was "unstinted". I kinda like that. Other synonyms: benevolent, freehearted, big, bighearted, bounteous, bountiful, freehanded, handsome, giving, liberal, openhanded, lavish, munificent, overgenerous, too-generous, unsparing...
