    What's your alltime favorite movie?

The Godfather, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Casablanca, The Untouchables, Shane, Patton. It depends which day you ask.

    Forbidden items in my home...

I'm afraid of the flying monkeys, the wicked witch, and the talking trees. And, yes, I do believe in spooks. I do. I do. I do. I do. I do. I'm only fifty-six so cut me some slack.

The general decline in standards today

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree, at least to an extent. I have lost close family members, four grandparents and a stepfather among others, and several close friends. Even in a state of extreme grief, it never once occurred to me to attend either a wake or a funeral dressed like a bum. In...

The general decline in standards today

That is a good point and one that actually crossed my mind. I have no doubt that it accounts for the lack of manners and good taste that pervades our society. On the other hand, I expect someone in their mid-twenties to know better whether they were properly instructed or not.

That was the actual point of the rant. Good on ya for scolding your cousin. That took some courage on your part, but since it was a family member, I believe it was entirely appropriate.

Given that the sneakers he was wearing probably cost $75.00, I doubt that was the problem.

The general decline in standards today

That was a bit of an overstatement. I have enough common sense not to make a scene at a funeral and, no, I wouldn't assault someone for dressing inappropriately. I was just expressing the extent of my disgust. Trying to change the culture would be a modern-day version of tilting at windmills and...

The general decline in standards today

I apologize for sending this conversation in a different direction, but I really need to vent. I attended a funeral this afternoon that had probably 250 people in attendance. Not one man in five had on a jacket and many of those who did wore theirs with an open-collar shirt. Although I find this...

    Forbidden items in my home...

Ah, you've found my weak spot. For the right girl, I'd sit through The Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, even Sleepless in Seattle.

Vintage Things That Have Disappeared In Your Lifetime?

That's the other thing we used it for. All the vegetables that we canned were cooked in the pressure cooker. They are perfect for ham and beans.

Vintage Things That Have Disappeared In Your Lifetime?

Someone may have mentioned this way back, but pressure cookers are seldom used these days. I know they still make them, but I haven't seen one used in probably forty years. When I was a little kid, we used to have these big family dinners (actually, lunches) at my great aunt's house on...

    Forbidden items in my home...

I'm with ya. I would rather have nails driven into my eyes than be subjected to even five minutes of West Side Story.

    What are you listening to?

Same here, but police traffic only and it's hardly music to my ears. Only one hour to go.

    Night Owls only

I'm a tried and true nightowl and have been since I was a little kid. I have worked late shift for nine years and have no intentions of changing. I have always functioned best at night. I keep the same late hours even on my days off unless I have reason to go to bed and get up early. On those...

The general decline in standards today

It's not that there aren't potential role models out there. We're simply not allowed to have anything good and decent anymore. Anything or anyone that has the slightest hint of redeeming value sets the media off on a witch hunt to destroy it or them. My grandparents were my role models also. My...

    Old movies and vices

Loved, loved, loved the Church Lady.

    What are you listening to?

That girl could sing up a storm. I think it's because her entire life was a country music song.

Your Drinking Partner From The Golden Age?

I'll pick John Huston because he led an unbelievably interesting life and also because he had one of the greatest speaking voices of all time. I could listen to him for hours. This is a great photograph.

    Your favorite movie quotes

"I haven't lost my temper in 40 years, but pilgrim you caused a lotta trouble this morning... mighta got somebody killed ... and somebody oughta belt you in the mouth... but I won't ... I won't... the hell I won't!" John Wayne in McClintock, 1963

    Forbidden items in my home...

I'm pretty open-minded about most things. The only thing I'd forbid in my home are rude and boorish people. I think I could deal with about anything else. Oh, wait. No Brussells sprouts.
