I have a hat I used to wear when hiking. It had been in "hidden storage" for several years. I want to wear it again but its leather band has some wrinkling and is stiff. I have a hat retainer-stretcher.
What to do about softening band's leather sufficiently to smooth wrinkles as band becomes...
I am partway through the 1931 "Trader Horn". Nowadays most will find it to be somewhat archaic and prejudiced. But it's incredibly interesting also. Alfred Aloysius Horn, portrayed by Harry Carey wears the most grotesque hat that is not a billed cap. You may want to judge it for yourselves. . ...
I have Borsalino fedora, qualita supremore, Cavanough edge, circa 1950s. As best you can from this information, please identify this hat's percentage of beaver fur felt.
Presently I own Borsalino, Dobbs, and Akubra "Heritage Collection" hats. All but Akubra are fedoras. Akubra is in the "fedora neighborhood" with slightly larger brim that is not snap brim capable.
Having been a Montana resident for more than 25 years and far from even moderately sized cities...
I apologize for my response being this tardy. I bought an Akubra Banjo Patterson (Heritage Collection) and I'm comfortable with it having chin strap slots and ventilation holes. Two questions:
- Why cannot vent holes be installed through the liner with holes' lined with the metal hole liner...
Here are images that I should have posted with my query.
Apparently, the front of Fonda's hat looks like Campaign hat but sides and rear are different? Is the crown also taller?
For the first time in a generation, I watched the 1946 motion picture "My Darling Clementine". Henry Fonda portrays Wyatt Earp, wearing a western hat with Montana crown. I estimate the hat's nearly flat brim as 3.5-4 inches per side. My Campaign hat also has a somewhat more sharply defined...
Has anyone rendered the crown of a standard three-inch brim campaign hat into a western/cowboy crown or any crown other than its standard form? My own rather beaten up campaign hat has its crown stretched and pointed to strongly resemble that earlier higher crown hat shown in many photographs of...
Okay, I confirmed that my Campaign hat doesn't have enough crown to render it anything more than a army-style Montana Peak.
I've identified a couple of used Western hats that are satisfactory - except for a couple of details. I especially appreciate chin strap slots and grommeted ventilation...
I acquired another Campaign Hat. Has anyone reshaped its stunted Montana crown to either more of a teardrop fedora shape or, perhaps, in more of a western crown?
Because I had so much aggravation maximizing a peak, I question whether there is enough felt in crown for serious reshaping. I won't...
I bought a Dobbs Twenty with 2.5-inch brim with Cavanaugh rolled edge and slotted crown. To my untutored eye it looks to be a homburg as it sits. But it also appears to become a fedora with snap brim as I choose. The only obvious difference I can discern between it an my Borsalino fedoras is...
Moderator, this sub-forum appears to be the least inappropriate location for my query. If you must, delete it.

In 1989 a friend and I were in the parking lot of Jack's Pizza in San José, California. We were to meet other friends to munch, drink, and watch the first game of the World Series...
While I believe only the U.S. Navy currently uses Morse Code, during World War II its use was ubiquitous. During my intermittent attempts to learn code, I butt against my inability to differentiate one letter/numeral from another.
How are individual letter/numerals differentiated, particularly...
Oops. You are right, and I am . . . er . . . uh . . . less than right.

So now identifying and contacting a hat restoring facility or person if one-man shop, becomes mandatory. I want to restore my Borsalinos, regardless of their present condition, to as close to new as can occur.
Okay, I've stumbled into a partial answer to my question, and that answer makes my follow-up more important for me. Why is this hat my favorite? I have four Borsalinos and don't particularly appreciate one of them. Why? Wandering the auctions of eBay Borsalino fedoras, I noticed that I didn't...
I am aware of hat fur felt quality being identified with "Xs." While this may have originated with Stetson and, apparently, has metamorphosed to advertising hyperbole, it's not part of my query.
Borsalino fedoras are the only non-outdoor hats I own. And I bought them more than 15 years ago...
This question began forming while watching my DVA of 1938's "The Adventures of Robin Hood." Among its commentary was that Errol Flynn became Warner Brothers' top star. But what does that mean?
- Flynn's movies were selling the most tickets of all the studio's star players?
- Flynn's movies were...
