Thanks Marcel. I believe it is a store brand. Penn-Traffic Co was apparently a department store in Pennsylvania throughout a good part of the last century. I’m assuming one of the private label firms made it for them. My guess right now is Beaver/Langenberg… but it could be any one of the many usual suspects.Very nice! Never heard of this brand before.
Excellent! Looks like they held the postal gorilla in check this time. Still some steam will be needed I think. Enjoy, Joe.This rather large mystery care package arrived all the way from The Hatted Dutchman…. Aka the transcontinental enabler. He thought I could use a little cheer me up. This should do the trick…. Looks like Stingymas might be coming a bit early to Stingyville this year!!! I’ll roll them out as time permits… should be a bit of fun indeed. Thank you Stefan @steur !!!

B Qualità Speciale (Barbisio)- Dresda
Dresda (Loden green/brown) medium to long nap felt
4 3/4 Crown as shaped
1 5/8 Patterned Ribbon
1 7/8 over welt brim
Stingymas has come early to Stingyville thanks to a mystery care package from everyone’s favorite transcontinental enabler, Stefan @steur . I think there’s enough stingies packed into the box we might be able to pull off not only a mini StingyMas in Spring and again in summer!
First up this a super soft almost velour like but longer haired felt with the only branding on the liner B Qualità Speciale. A quick search on the lounge I came across Stefan’s original post for this hat from just a couple months ago which indicates the hat was made by Barbisio.… making it officially my first hat from this maker. (Hint: it won’t be the last) The color “Dresda” is definitely a very Loden colored felt… one minute it’s brown the next it’s green depending on light. The finish is Talpa - longer haired and super soft to the touch. A stingy 1 7/8 overwelt brim… but a nice roomy crown reaching about 4 3/4 as shape. Finished off with the patterned ribbon that makes it all pop. This hat is in fantastic almost unworn condition and a fitting way to kick off this special magical mystery StingyMas in spring time edition.

Thank you Dale. All thanks to Stefan of course.Incredible!! Great score!
Looking good on you, Joe. There might be a disproportionate number of green hats in that box by the wayView attachment 696935

Beaver Brand Hats - Major
Tan Long hair felt
4 5/8 Crown as Shaped
1 5/8 matching grosgrain ribbon
1 7/8 underwelt brim
Hat #2 of Stefan’s mystery care box for Springtime Stingymas Beautiful long hair felt by Beaver Hats. All this one needed was a good brushing to align the fibers. (A bit of steam might have them lay down a tad more). The ribbon is in an almost matching color… but shows a tinge of rose in some lights. There are Several tiny moth nips that are almost obligatory on this kind of finish.. but nothing significant and hide themselves pretty well. Thanks again to Stefan… It is a Beautiful hat that is perfect for this second day of StingyMas in Springtime.

This Borsalino arrived a few days ago, just got it cleaned up yesterday. I tried to get colours close to how I see them in person. Not sure whether to post this here on in the Borsalino Brootherhood thread.

There is a small grease stain in the front, but I wont sand the brim just for that. Its not noticeable at all, Id rather leave it be. Plus chances are sanding wouldn’t do a thing.
From the label I know its pre 60s, my guess is late 50s. Model is TA/LUDORA, what the other label means I dont know. Experts feel free to chime in! Interestingly none of the typical "Gran Lusso" type markings on the sweatband.
Overall a great, authentic looking hat. No damage apart from the plastic. Fits me too, no strong smells. Compared to my early/mid 60s Borsalino, the felt here is much nicer and softer. Nicer proportions too. I kept the original diamond "four finger" crease. For €50 its a great score and will certainly get worn.
Who knew??I'm so looking forward to seeing the rest of the hats in the box from the Grand Enabler, Joe.
Stingymas in Spring! Who knew that was a thing![]()
